ARMY BOWL NOTES
Army’s bowl win on Saturday improved the Black Knights to 5-2 all-time in bowl games. Army won back-to-back bowl games for the first time since the 1984-85 seasons. It was the program’s second victory in the Armed Forces Bowl. The other win came back in 2010. It was the second time that the Black Knights have won 10 games in a season. The last time that happened was in 1996.
Jeff Monken is the second Army head coach to lead the Cadets to two bowl wins; Jim Young also led Army to double-digit wins in a season. Saturday’s win was Army first-ever win over San Diego State in three tries. Army finished the 2017 season winning seven of its last eight games. Army football is now 681-516-51 all-time.
Army football set a new record for touchdowns scored in a season with 50. Army had an Armed Forces Bowl record 20-play drive that ended in a missed field goal. That drive took 11:19 off the clock which is also an bowl record. Ahmad Bradshaw made his 32nd career start and 16th consecutive under center. Bradshaw is now the single-season rushing leaders among the three service academies with 1,746 yards.
Bradshaw now has 3,038 yards in his career and is fifth all-time on the career rushing list at Army. Bradshaw was named the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Most Valuable Player.
