ARMY BOWL PROJECTIONS ROUND UP

We know that Army will be going bowling this year after results on Saturday. Here are a few expert projections of where the Black Knights will be playing.

The 6-6 Army Black Knights were not assured of their first bowl game since 2010 because only five of those wins count towards bowl eligibility. Thus we had a situation on Saturday where Black knights fans were rooting for service academy rival Navy (along with a few other schools) to stop various five-win teams getting that sixth win and potentially taking Army’s spot in a  bowl game.

As the dust settled there were 75 teams with enough wins to be bowl eligible. Two more (Louisianna-Lafayette and South Alabama) have a game left to get eligible. With 80 openings this bowl season that will mean a minimum of three teams with five wins counting towards eligibility will get to go bowling. The tie breaker here is Academic Progress Rate and Army has the highest such score among the five-win teams. Thus the Black Knights will have first pick of the remaining bowl games.

Army will fill the spot of one of the conferences that did not get as many teams bowl eligible as they have contracted bowl slots to fill. There is still some movement to come here with the various conference championship games to be played this week and weekend, but here are some of the slots that Army has been given according to those that spend their college season projecting these kinds of things.

CBS Sports – Army vs Houston – Military Bowl – Annapolis, Maryland

Sporting News – Army vs UCF – Military Bowl – Annapolis, Maryland

SBNation – Army vs Boston College – Quick Lane Bowl – Detriot, Michigan

Campus Insiders – Army vs Boston College – St. Petes Bowl – St. Petersburg, Florida

The takeaway here is to keep everything crossed that if the Black Knights are to play Boston College in December, then that game happens in the stunning sunshine of Florida as opposed to the deathly cold of Detroit.

Stay tuned for more bowl projections and coverage over the next few weeks.
