Various Rankings

Post by gabn92 » Tue Oct 02, 2018 5:44 pm

It's nice to see Army getting a few votes in the coach's poll.

FWIW, Sagarin has us at #47 and the Massey Composite has us at #33. These are the highest ratings I can remember...don't think we cracked the top 50 last year?

Were these rating systems around for the 1996 team or back in the mid-80's during the Young era? Wondering if these might be all-time highs for Army for these rankings?

Regardless, I think it shows a growing respect...even by the computers...for Army's body of work over the past couple of seasons. 8 - 5, then 10 - 3 and now 3 - 2 with some wins over decent teams and the near-upset of OU. People are taking notice, and the computers are as well. There's a well-deserved growing respect for the Army program and the direction it is headed.

Isn't it amazing to be having conversations like this on this board?! After so many frustrating years, what a great testament to Coach Monken and his staff for how they've turned things around and instilled a culture of discipline, winning and striving for excellence.

Looking forward to watching these rankings climb this season as Army rolls...

Know the AP was around in 1946 when they screwed Army out of the National Championship and gave the title to Notre Dame. Army and ND TIED that year, 0-0, and they gave the defending National Championship to the other team.

After asking Joe Steffy thought about that change he stated that the champion was "never beaten so how can you give the title to somebody else?"

In boxing , the title remains with the defender if the fight ends in a draw!!

So there, AP. I haven't like that poll since that day in 1946 when they screwed the Army team. :(

The Helms Athletic Association gave the title to Army, a very reputable polling organization of the day as did others.

The Athletic’s 130 has Army at 40. We jumped 13 spots with the win over Buffalo. Navy is 61st and Air Force is 105 in those rankings.

Why do we get 4 votes in the Coaches poll but never in the Writers (AP) poll?

I don't Rabble! And how did Hawaii get a vote in the AP Poll this week? Is there any way to see how some of the coaches voted? I know a lot of the AP voters release their polls.

Army was at #60 last year in Sagarin rankings. The highest rating for any Army team was for the 1996 team that went 10-2. They finished the year ranked #40.

Interestingly, the Navy team which was beaten by Army was ranked #37. They did win their bowl game against Cal whereas Army lost a close one against Auburn.

Air Force managed to finish #42 even with a 6-5 record.

Its nice to be ranked but winning the CIC Trophy and winning a bowl game is tops for me. That is REALLY our goal.
