I gotta say that I am enjoying Army being in the top 25 so we get included in articles like this. I can hardly wait for the season to start!
Being in the top 25 has it's perks - another article on the top 25 and who is most likely from the team to make the NFL in 2020. The ESPN pick is team captain LB Cole Christiansen. I like Christiansen a lot and want him and few from this year to make it. I personally however feel another team captain -CB: Elijah Riley may have a slight edge on him in making the NFL - thoughts?

"Christiansen has been a tackling machine for the Black Knights with 161 tackles and 17 tackles for loss over the past two years. As the key returning part of the Army linebacking corps, Christiansen could notch even more tackles as a senior. And that sure tackling could propel the Army team captain onto an NFL roster, even if it's on special teams. -- Trotter"

NFL Draft 2019 Implications for Army

Post by ArmyBN82 » Sun Apr 28, 2019 12:08 pm

NFL announced Vikings selected Air Force Academy LS Austin Cutting in the 7th Round of the NFL Draft.

Vikings also put out a statement of “Talking with the people at the Academy, we’re working through ways he can serve his commitment but also serve in his football capacity here.” - GM Rick Spielman on @Austin_Cutting

Imagine that Brett Toth Class 2018, and from class of 2019 Darnell Woolfolk, James Nachtigal, Kenneth Brinson, and Nick Schrage, and Mike Reynolds - will all pay much attention to see what opportunity they may have to sign on as undrafted free agents...

Re: Air Force almuni now Coaching

Post by ArmyBN82 » Wed May 01, 2019 9:16 pm

Interesting that with the departure of Linebacker Coach Matt Weikert last month for Vanderbilt Air Force is bringing on former Falcon linebacker - Coach Andre Morris for either Linebacker coach or Defensive Assistance.

Air Force has been effective in growing their player development and in development of future coaches for the Academy.

"Morris joins Alex Means as assistants who remain on active duty. Morris, Means and Jordan Eason, an Air Force graduate who is now a civilian, each played for the Falcons under Calhoun. Nine of the 14 assistants are Air Force graduates, as is Calhoun."

Sal Interdonato today reported that 2018 Army Linebacker James Nachtigal was invited to Browns rookie mini-camp this weekend. He is a heck of player and that Houston game alone makes a compelling case for him.

I see zero connection between having former players coach for the team and having a good team. We have one Army graduate as an assistant coach, with one other graduate as a Director of Player Personnel. We have a better coaching staff than Air Force and better player/coach development. Navy has never really had graduates as coaches either. Howdy Doody has and has never had a breakout year. Their own hardcore fans complain about the insular nature of having a ton of graduates as coaches.

Today Army Football announced that Darnell Woolfolk is also going to workout with the NFL and isset to compete at NY Giants rookie camp this weekend. Still think we may see our center Holland and Mike Reynolds getting opportunities to try out as well...

Re: Army Beating Navy and Air Force - In Attitude

Post by ArmyBN82 » Mon May 06, 2019 9:42 pm

Following the "Not that Tough" reply from Monkey to the President on Air Force - we are lead to believe that all of the Air Force was taken back by the off the cuff remark. I thought it interesting to see Kelvin Hopkins reply of:

"If you need motivation to win a game... a rivalry game.... you weak 😂"

Think Hopkins has the right player attitude as all these Service Academy games regardless of the records going in are tough.

Navy Team and QB Perry assessment

Post by ArmyBN82 » Sat May 11, 2019 5:13 pm

Saw this assessment overall of Navy Team and a quick breakdown on QB Perry. I agree that this appears to be a rebuilding year for Navy and with the desire to retool the offense around Perry AND also wanting to pass the ball more - brining in a spread WR coach with that task - it will take a year or two for Navy to get in groove. But Army Navy will always be a tough game regardless of the records.

"Navy is likely in another rebuilding year. They need to replace their kicker Bennett Moehring, and the competition seems to be between a punter and a kickoff specialist. Quarterback Malcolm Perry, who will likely start for the Mids this season, is an unimpressive, stock triple option quarterback. He’s a low threat passer, with a 36% completion rate last season, but he does have some quick feet and a decent run game, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. Coach Ken Niumatalolo has expressed frustration with funding and support for the football team, so it’s hard to see Navy as a dangerous team, but they’re an extremely well-run as a program and their game could easily click at a moment’s notice."
