Stalin would be proud.
Taking down the famous quote about duty. Disgraceful.
Washington and MacArthur will be next someday. Mark my words.

Re: West Point Removing History
It will get far worse for our beloved country at least for the next 2 years until if and when this present socialist government under the leadership our president Joseph Biden are voted out of office.
I am very worried. Trust only in our God.
I suppose I will be investigated by somebody for saying this .
I love Army West Point but I love my God much more.

You can never change history whether it was good or bad.
History is our great teacher.
Learn from it.
To take history and throw it into a trash heap is the biggest mistake of all.
Our guideline for learning comes from the success our past and the failures of that past.

This nation is done.
Actually, it has been done since 1913.
We are just playing out the string.

This is a complicated topic for me. On one hand, it’s tough not to recognize the accomplishments and history of Robert E. Lee and his compatriots. On the other hand, they fought in a rebellion against the country they, and I, swore to defend.

Re: West Point Removing History
For me it is complex, but not complicated. Lee et. al. swore an oath to the effect “that I will bear true allegiance to the United States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against all their enemies or opposers WHATSOEVER" (emphasis mine). It is not complicated to me that they violated this oath and as such were traitors to the United States. In no way should those the fought against the U.S. be honored by having a gate, or a road, or a barracks name for them. If my future grandchild (who will be brown skinned), chooses to go to WP I cannot imagine the thought of them being forced to live in a building named after one that chose to a. enslave other humans, and b. fought a war centered around allowing others to do the same.
Complex, because we should and must not ignore the contributions of these "wayward" brothers. How to do this while ensuring their choices in re: their actions during the Civil War is better left to smarter folks then I.

Re: West Point Removing History
I am pretty conservative in most things but this is a topic that I at least "get." Confederate soldiers fought against our country, and in essence, they fought in part to keep slavery (I know all of the history so I don't need a history lesson). Sorta hard to make the argument that we should keep their names in important places. To me this is like the steroid users making the baseball hall of fame. Don't let them make it, but definitely have a section in cooperstown saying "barry bonds probably used steroids but he was a very, very good player." Same with confederates. Take their name of the barracks, but still have a location on campus talking about the war, the heroes, etc.

Re: West Point Removing History
Well, for what it's worth. Former cadets from both sides came together after the war and reconciled their differences. I read that Custer and his roommate Rosser fought against one another tooth and nail throughout the war but fought together in the American West after the war. There were many instances where officers from one side would congratulate their opponents on events such as weddings, birth, etc. After the war North & South also reconciled their differences. For all American history up to the present that reconciliation has stood the test of time. Now "Americans" of today, who had no immediate stake in the outcome, have decided it is time to undo all that reconciliation. To me this is Monday morning quarterbacking and is hogwash.
