Navy Football Three Keys: Memphis

Navy football three keys

Navy football travels Memphis on Thursday. Here are your three keys to a Navy win over Memphis.

Key 1 – Stop Brady White

Memphis has an outstanding quarterback in Brady White. In three games he’s completed over 72% (18th nationally) of his passes for 718 yards and five touchdowns. White is 10th nationally in yards per attempt (9.97) and his completion. Navy’s defensive line has to get some kind of pressure on White. The Mid’s secondary must cover well and get some breakups and interceptions.

Key 2 – Don’t Flinch

Navy shouldn’t be intimidated by Memphis. Remember, the Mids defeated Memphis last season in Annapolis. Also, we don’t really know how good the Tigers are as a team. They barely beat a somewhat poor Ole Miss team 15-10 in game 1. Other than Ole Miss, Memphis’ wins have been over lightly regarded teams South Alabama and Southern.

Key 3 – Malcolm Perry Shines

You’ll see this key every week. The Mids need for quarterback Malcolm Perry to play well. Perry hasn’t played extensively in the first two games because Navy has won handily but he is completing almost 69% of his passes with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s also run for 184 yards on 34 carries (5.4 ypc). Perry has played well in the first two games and if he plays well at Memphis Navy likely wins there. Finally, the Mids need to protect Perry and Perry needs to protect himself. You can bet Memphis knows if the Tigers take out Perry their chances of winning improve dramatically. Perry doesn’t need to try to be Superman. He should run out of bounds or take a slide when practical.

Thursday’s game kicks off at 8:00 ET. Watch on the ESPN Network.
