Air Force Football Three Keys: San Jose State

Three keys Air Force

Air Force hosts San Jose State on Friday in Colorado Springs, CO. Here is your first look at San Jose State.

Key 1 – Block Aguayo

Spartan senior linebacker Ethan Aguayo is second among FBS players in tackles per game at 14.7. Through three games he has 44 tackles including 20 unassisted, a sack along with another tackle for loss, an interception and a quarterback hurry. His interception on Saturday at Arkansas set up San Jose State for a touchdown which gave the Spartans a 14-7 lead in an eventual big road victory. The Mission Viejo, Calif., veteran linebacker is a player the Falcons need to block and keep under wraps.

Key 2 – Pass Defense Solid

San Jose State is a team that likes to pass and they do it pretty well. So far this season the team has gained 859 yards passing and just 374 yards rushing. Quarterback Josh Love is completing a healthy 62.7% of his passes for over 270 yards per game on average. Spartan blockers have allowed just three sacks so far this season. The Falcons’ pass defense has done well so far this season. This game will be another challenge for the Air Force pass defense.

Key 3 – Win the Fourth Quarter

Last week at Boise State, at the end of the third quarter Air Force trailed just 17-13. However, the Broncos won the fourth quarter 13-6. It’s common in college football for the fourth quarter to be the deciding factor in a team’s winning or losing. In this case it was, unfortunately, the Falcons who were on the short end of the stick. Air Force players will be wondering for the rest of their lives about what could have been if they’d have just made one more play on offense or defense. The key is to either have enough points at the beginning of the fourth quarter to win or if it’s close, win the fourth and win the game.

Friday’s game kicks off at 6 pm MT. Watch on the CBS Sports Network.
