Congrats to the 2024 Army Team!

Post by gabn92 »

Great to see an Army win last night to cap off what has been a tremendous season, even with the disappointing loss to Navy. Let's recap some of the accomplishments:

1) 1st 12-win season in Army football history
2) AAC conference champions
3) Beat AF
4) Bryson Daily finishes 6th in the Heisman voting and earns AAC Offensive Player of the Year honors, and breaks Keenan Reynolds' record for most rushing TDs by a QB in a season
5) Monken wins AAC Coach of the Year
6) Offensive line wins Joe Moore Award as best offensive line in the country
7) Independence Bowl win..now an impressive 8-3 in bowls
8) Highest AP ranking (#16) since 1962
9) Most weeks spent nationally ranked since 1958
10) Ranked in the 1st-ever CFP poll (and for multiple weeks)

There's probably more, but that's off the top of my head. Beating La Tech and finishing 12-2 certainly helps to recover a bit from the disappointment of losing to Navy, but not quite all the way. We'll spend some of the off-season on the woulda, coulda, shoulda conversation I'm sure regarding the Navy game...but we do need to take a few minutes to stop and smell the roses. This was an amazing year of Army football!

I'm keeping an eye on teams ranked 15-25 to see how Army might finish out with a final ranking. Hoping the 12-2 record, conference championship and bowl victory are enough to keep them in the final top 25. They've certainly earned it!

As a longtime fan who watched a whole lot of really bad football from 1997 to 2016, the idea that anyone including me could find fault with 12-2 is ironical

That said, my 2 “sticks in my craw” moments
1: i thought we were a 60th type team masquerading as a top 25 team. The two best teams we played, Notre Dane and Navy, pretty much whipped us. I think in the AAC of UCF and Houston etc we are 4-4 in conference
2. We go another year of not having a true signature win. I think for most average college fans, a good army team is a “cute story” and then its “oh yeah the second they play a good team like Notre Dame, they get killed.” Whereas i think the narrative about navy is “oh, well, occasionally they get a legit win.”

We’ll need to find a Qb which might be our backup and i’d love to hear about 2-3 guys doing a 5th year like Fincuane just did

I really liked our team this year and agree with gabn92 about all the achievements.

I have to say, however, that my heart isn’t over the loss to Navy. For some reason that really stung and sapped a lot of my enthusiasm for the bowl, etc. My head says that is stupid given all the accomplishments of this team but my heart hangs heavy.

The round 1 of the CFP showed that our loss to ND was not far off the lower ranked CFP teams performances, so I don’t really find too much off there. As for the rest of the schedule, you can only play who is scheduled and we did that very well.

I just wish I could get past the Navy loss.

Congratulations to the Army football team on a great season. The best report I heard last night was in reference to Udo leaving and how the team would react. Apparently Daly told the team that they are not a bunch of individuals, they are a team. Next man up!

Unfortunately for the Navy game I believe the team knew Udo had already checked out and they were in some state of disarray. Certainly Udo’s performance was hapless. And that coupled with a little fatigue and Navy’s excellent execution of a darn good game plan and play calling gets a Big Fat L. Then Army regrouped, got over it, and played a crappy opponent last night. And that resulted in W #12.

As for ND, we were Never Ever going to challenge that buzz saw as it is coming to its peak performance this season. Very good chance ND wins the whole thing.

Again, congrats to Army for a great season.

Besides Udoh, who i am sure probably told some guys and it hurt locker room…i am also sure seeing your coach try to leave you for 2 different jobs cant be the best morale booster

Even if those things impactes our team negative 5 or 10%, we dont have enough talent to beat navy

The team got the most out of its talent. Two glaring needs for next season. First, replace Daily, which is mission impossible. Get someone who can kick off, which is eminently possible.

That was an incredible season. Thank you to Coach Monken and his staff for the turn around from the last two years. When you think about it, we offensively had almost the same players last year but a much different outcome. Props to Coach Worley for the offensive turn around. Nate woody pulled together a great defense after losing a lot of seniors last year. Hoping to keep the staff together for future years of success.

In my 80 years of following Army Football, the 2024 team a by far the greatest team in modern times (1960-2024).
So, we lost to a team far above our skill set in Notre Dame which incidentally should have not scheduled in the first place and to Navy which we have been upset many times before (look up the 1950 game which I consider the worst loss in history as a 28- point favorite).
Everyone moans the Navy loss but to me Navy has beaten us before and will do it again. Do not detract from a SPECTACULAR season. They deserve all the praise an Army fan can give. A 12-2 record I would never have dreamed of but the team did it. I am so thankful to all who had a part in this. It made all these years the capstone of my tremendous love and respect for all who made this A STORYBOOK TEAM.
