Awesome JM Interview on the Army Football Turnaround

Post by WrekDivr »

This is the longest JM interview I’ve seen. Over an hour. He talks about the turnaround, the experiment with shorting, etc.

It WAS an awesome interview, because it was vintage JM. No theatrics, no frills no BS. "Just the truth M'am" (or those old enough to remember). Jeff is just a WP treasure, and although he "never served in uniform" to paraphrase him, he has likely impacted thousands more than those of us who did. Every cadet who witnesses or benefits from his leadership and his example is a better future leader as a "Monken Man".

Wish only that he'd been asked about Army Defense, so Nate Woody can get a little well-deserved love...

I’ve said this to JM before:

"You really have no idea how tremendously impactful you are to our Army. Many of us who did put on a uniform may have managed to influence some number of soldiers for a while or maybe improve the policies or tactics of the Army in our own small circle for our own brief careers……………but compared to what you do every day and every year we literally pale in comparison. Your players and the entire Corps benefit from your teaching and your personal example every day. And these same young people take those lessons and impart them to hundreds and thousands of soldiers in their careers. From imparting discipline to demanding excellence to the simplest but most important concept of WINNING, the Jeff Monken way has been and hopefully will continue to be spread throughout the entire United States Army every year with another graduating class of leaders. The circle widens and widens and widens. You literally could not make more of an impact or more of a positive contribution if you were in ANY uniform job. It will be your lasting legacy, and every American soldier owes you a debt of gratitude because he’s being led by a “Monken Man”."

Hope he stays with us for another decade minimum.
