Navy Fullback entering transfer portal

Post by monkensminion »

There are some reports on Twitter that Navy’s workhorse fullback, Jamele Carothers, is leaving the Naval Academy and entering the “transfer portal.” How is that even possible? The kid’s a rising senior. Doesn’t he have to go into the fleet now? Or is that a thing of the past?

Either way a huge blow to Navy.

And this confirms both that Carothers was Navy's first string FB AND that coming out of Spring practices Navy hasn't yet decided its top QB:

I wonder what is up at navy. Earlier, Perry Olsen entered the transfer portal as well. While Morris and Arline earned the starting roles, I remember being a bit surprised by Ivan Jasper’s seemingly unconcerned comments. Now their starting g FB transfers. Maybe totally unrelated or maybe a trend.

It's been my opinion that something's just not right in Annapolis. The FB program has been in decline for the past 4 seasons (2019 was the "Malcolm Perry Effect" season. Take away Perry from that team and it was average at best). Buried in one of the articles was mention of a rising Firstie O-lineman who started spring camp as starter, lost out, and is now no longer on the roster. He wasn't the only one mentioned as losing out their starting positions. Sounds to me as though Navy is searching for itself and some players, like Caruthers, decided to leave.

The 2021 season is going to be a bellwether for Coach N and his future at the helm of the squids. If the team sputters through another disaster like last year it could very well be his last season as HC.

Multiple scenarios can happen to a cadet/mid in that type of situation, ranging from out right expulsion to some kind of recoupment (making them pay), etc...

No scenario is alike, and alot of times, it depends on the history as a cadet.

when i was a cadet, they had an honor rehabilitation program where the cadets would leave the academy and go into the army as an E4 for a year, often deployed to iraq or afghanistan.

certainly made me double check my works cited page twice
