cost overruns

Post by RABBLE »

Does anyone have an idea how much this stadium reconstuction cost has been overrun??
What was the original cost for this project when first proposed?
It appears to me that these overruns have heavily been overrun since the stadium is stlll not yet being run over or demolished. Might as well sell some tickets this fall in those east stands since we are close to another season and it wouldn't look so good on tv to see them empty.
By the way, are they filling in those super holes on Thayer Road yet and elsewhere from that big rain we just had?
Did Michie float away?

Geez, the questions you get in the off season. :?

I believe in the neighborhood of 30 million. The AD suddenly wanted an office tower complex in the SE corner to house all the admin functions for everything related to sports.

I think 30 is on the low end. Maybe the Powerball winner was a grad or hardcore fan.

The reason for the delay in the Michie Stadium renovation is that the 2019 cost of the project in 2013 price is now 92% higher than that original cost.

Reasons given was the covid-19 outbreak which affected construction costs plus this year's storm and the damage to the West Point infrastructure.
The authorities believe the job will be done by the 2026 season.

92 % increase !!
Geez, I wonder what the current estimated cost in dollars will be now because of all this?

Plus the fact that no tickets have been sold on the east stands because nobody figured the stands would be there for the next couple of seasons. Also, the cadets were supposed to fill the north and south end zones. Now what?
Will they sit there now that the season is almost here and what will those east stands be done with now because no tickets have been sold for this season figuring those stands would be demolished by now.

Now that is a real mess for the ticket office I am sure.

My father, who had relocated his seats to the upper deck on the other side just received a letter offering to let him have his old seats back for this season.

I know what my answer would be, assuming I did change them in first place.

Hey Rabble, The storm was 2 weeks ago, the cost/plans 10 years ago. What happened with the storm to change the structural integrity in and around the stadium? Did the reservior dike collapse and the adjoining stream become a river? if the cost were estimated in 2013 then they should have got the donations then and locked in the price by purchasing futures material contracts Come to think of it they probably would have had to have a completion "drop dead deadline" a lot of changes to one's life can happen in 10-14 years.

My understanding was that the final cost estimation was completed in 2019.( 95 million) By 2023 the cost was then re-estimated pre-constrution beginning this summer after this year's graduation to increase 92% over the 2019 estimate. To my thinking that is the original figure of 95 million with that additional 92% comes to about now a cost total of 178 million.

Did anyone else receive a notification from the Army A Club about 8 new hires for athletic development? Thinking of the stadium project funding shortfalls, I replied to the notification asking if these were new positions.
