Re: 2023 Predictions
Pretty similar to what I’ve seen elsewhere: 6-6, split with AF and Navy, no CIC and no bowl.
Hope everyone is wrong. It really comes down to the new offense. When the TO was able to eat up clock while scoring points, we won games. Our D will have a tough time if they are on the field a lot.
I hope the new O can score and chew clock. If we believe it will be something like Coastal, who had an average TOP of 32 min and some change, we can do better than predicted.

Re: 2023 Predictions
Some other Army coaches (we all know who they are) tried to change the Army offense with bad results. I always wish Army well but this better work out. I, for one, will be skeptical until I see positive results.

Re: 2023 Predictions
The irony here is that one of those coaches (he who shall not be named) has now caused us to change our office TWICE... hope this works out better than the first time he did that...

Re: 2023 Predictions
I'll bite on the "Predictions" theme of this thread.
I'll be thrilled if they end up 6-6. I think the 2023 record will be more like 2 3 wins. I fully support the need to change the offense given the rule changes, which we have all seen greatly hampers Army's version of an option offense. I don't though know why fans expect such a dramatic change will be accomplished in such a short time to allow for 6 wins. Not seeing it in 2023. It scares me that so many on the team note that they are adapting quickly to the offense because it is so similar to what they ran in HS or what they've seen from other college teams. The uniqueness of Army's offense was one of its now gone strengths. Here's how i see the season:
Louisiana - Monroe L
Delaware State W
UTSA L
Syracuse L
BC L
Troy L
LSU L
UMASS W
AF L
Holy Cross W
Coastal Carolina L
Navy ?

Re: 2023 Predictions
I am optimistic for 2024 mostly because I think Monken is a really, really smart coach and I think monken really believes in Drinkall and the new OC.OptionThis wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 10:57 am I'll bite on the "Predictions" theme of this thread.

I am optimistic for 2023 but I also agree it could turn into an absolute clusterf&ck

Re: 2023 Predictions
if we would have had a competent offensive coordinator that could field an offense with a pulse when it mattered, we could have easily been an 8-4 team last year instead of 6-6. Down the stretch in 2022, we scored 0 points in the first half against troy, 0 points in the second half/7 points total with 145 yards of total offense against air force, and 3 points by the offense in regulation against navy.
We should have beat troy and air force, and put a beat down on navy (navy has fielded two awful teams the past two years).
I agree with P&D that i'm not sure totally changing our offense was needed, but i gotta think the offense can't be any worse than last year. at a minimum, it doesn't seem like we are going to be running a 5-7 QB off tackle 20-25 times per game.
I'm optimistic that we have a shot at winning the CIC and getting into a bowl.

Re: 2023 Predictions
With Coach Monken, i think er can win 2 more games than we would otherwise if we did not have his excellent ability.
With that said, our schedule is the toughest we have had in quite awhile . No excuse of course. It is what it is.
With our new offensive system and the time it takes to learn it plus a new set of QBs to run it and basically a new OC and the season ending injury to Alex Meredith who had a reasonable chance to start and also opening upon the road which I never have liked anyway, the road ahead looks very daunting.
I can't give a W-L prediction yet but it now looks like how we make out in the injury department down the road, before we begin the real games, will have a huge bearing on how successful we will be this season.
We can not afford to lose anybody else seriously injured because of our chronic depth problems since forever. That problem has always been our problem. Its systemic.

Re: 2023 Predictions
The former coach changed to a spread option when he got here in 2000, screwed up the program for a decade and a half, and as the executive director of the AFCA, has reportedly been part of the push to ban downfield cut blocks. At least that's the rumor !kfan12 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 9:38 am??...I don't get this "caused us to change our office TWICE"
