Finally, a definitive update about T-Rob, from Jeff:
As many feared and contrary to some bad rumors on this board, it was an extremely serious knee injury. If we can even hope to see him back, and if he can resurrect most or all of his former speed and agility and confidence, it will have been about a year after he went down...
Fingers crossed.

Certainly unfortunate to lose him but injury is part of the game. Blowing out a total joint like he did is a long road to go down to return.

Army has a history of losing their best running backs going back to Gene Mikelonis and Tommy Smith. All signs thus far point to a very rough season for the team.

Re: Actual FOOTBALL news.
Can't disagree about our unfortunate history, but obviously I hope you're wrong about the season. T-Rob could be back by mid-Sep, in time for UTS and then Syracuse, when we'll really need all the firepower we can muster. Before then, we should be able to handle ULM and Del State with any kind of respectable offensive production. If not, then you're right and it'll be a LOOOONG season.
Personally, I vacillate between whether we threw the baby out with the bathwater when we fired Davis and also completely discontinued the under-center option, or whether Jeff was prescient in knowing that new cut-block rules doomed our old offense and that dictated a change.
I kinda wish we had continued under- center for another year but with renewed OPTION emphasis on the pitch, counters, reverses and wheels to loosen up defenses for our inside power runs. If then we continued to be ineffective, a huge change to the gun would have been absolutely inarguable.
Having said that, my faith resides in Jeff. He has forgotten more than I'll ever know about the game. Instead of wasting another year, perhaps he moved at the right time...
We'll know a helluva lot more in less than 2 weeks.

I still wonder if our greatest issues over the last couple of years were the changes in O-line coaching.ARMORMAN wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 2:32 pm Can't disagree about our unfortunate history, but obviously I hope you're wrong about the season. Re: Actual FOOTBALL news.
When I heard Monken's comments, I also wondered if he might be mentally penciling Robinson in for game #3, with the hope/thought that the team should be able to get through the first 2 games without him and the extra time to build strength and gain confidence would be better than putting him on the field too soon.
Remaining hopeful over here.
