AAC wants Army Part 2
Pete Thamel posted this on X (former Twitter)
"Sources: Army and the AAC are continuing to progress in their talks about Army joining the league as a football-only member. A realistic timeline for a decision is the end of the month.

There’s optimism on both sides as they dive further into the details to figure out a potential arrangement. The Army-Navy game would be a non-conference game if Army joins the AAC and still be played after the season."
Anybody hearing anything on post?

OK. Unfortunately I read two newspapers almost every day. Not proud. Actually disgusted. However, everybody knows that Twitter is renamed X. Everyday in dozens of articles they reference Joey Potsandpans wrote on X, formerly Twitter. For how long will the obvious continue to be ‘clarified’.
For the record both papers look like newspapers but they are not. Stole that from Chris Plante.

I'll repeat my comment I made about Army joining the AAC "God I hope not".

I have to say that I don’t totally hate the idea of joining the AAC. While I like Army being an independent, we are likely going to have to join a conference at some point. We seem to play a lot of these guys anyway. Navy is still able to play an FCS team and a big name power 5 every year, but don’t seem to have to play 2 FCS teams year after year.

Re: AAC wants Army Part 2
The AAC is going to be a disaster if we join. First, we have to play 8 AAC teams. Second, it appears they are going to have navy be a non-conference game to keep its December date. Add in Air Force, and now we have 10 required games every year.
Good bye national schedule. Good bye having a few easy games mixed in. Good by schedule flexibility. And, if we want want to use our 2 open spots to play an Oklahoma (and probably an FCS), now thats 11 very, very tough game.
Joining the AAC will be a disaster just as bad as joining Conference USA. I don't think it is a coincidence that Navy has had its worst couple of years in a few decades since joining, and their coach just got fired.

Re: AAC wants Army Part 2
Are you kidding me?
Geez, we got burnt once with the CUSA, now we are looking to get burnt again with the AAC.
Do you expect that we will have Coach Monken forever?? He leaves, we get into another damn conference, hire another stiff like Todd Berry, win a game or two per year, get tired of losing and playing the same teams year after year (damn boring), then we want to get out and then paying millions to get out and we get the same thing over, and over and over, again and again.
I have been thru it all and history ALWAYS repeats itself.
Hey, Gilland and Buddie. Talk to a guy who has seen it all and seen it all before both of you were even born and I will tell you that, "IT 'AINT GONNA WORK because history never lies or changes course.
I will tell you both-- Take away an independent schedule you aini a national team anymore.
Further, if you want to make loads of cash, JOIN.
If you want a winner, DO NOT JOIN and set your own schedule. I guarantee , there is not a team in America that would not want to play Army, at any time , anywhere. We got the history, reputation and respect to back us up on the fields of friendly strife.
Do not use scheduling as an excuse to join a league, any league.
So, you play a team like Memphis every damn year. Means nothing to us and we won't fill Michie any year anyway.
Remember the likes of Southern Miss? Never beat them, no crowd at home and who gave a crap seeing THAT team at home. Stay independent, select a 4-4-4 type schedule win the CIC and get a bowl bid. Otherwise, we are not going to win the AAC at all and 99% of the time win the league trophy." Personally, Charllotte, I don't give a damn" about any league talk. These guys will do anything they want anyway.

I think if Army is going to join a conference, they should join a power conference. Army would be able to upgrade its recruiting and revenue being in a power conference. If we are not going to go power we might as well stay independent.

Re: AAC wants Army Part 2
Oh sure join a Power Conference. Let us try the Big 10.
I would say we could beat Northwestern every 10 years or so.
Rutgers could fall to us every 12 years maybe.
Beating Wisconsin could take about every 15 years.
Penn State would fall about once in 18 years.
AND
Michigan and Ohio State, I would say about 50 to 100 years if the wind blows right.
In other words, "'Are you Kidding Me??" Let us all enter into the Realm of Realism.
Now in the event we have WW3 and the draft returns, maybe we could cut those figures humm... in half?
Hey, we got a good and decent program right now. Let us attempt it to keep it that way, PLEASE?

Re: AAC wants Army Part 2
Really have to take exception with those who say joining the AAC will eliminate Army's national schedule. The bottom line is we play mostly an Eastern and southern schedule, with a lot of teams in Texas, Louisiana and Georgia. Rarely does Army play a western team outside of Air Force, of course, and we have even fewer midwestern schools on our schedule now that the MAC conference seems to be uninterested in playing us any longer.
More importantly, we have to look at what is going on with college football and what it will mean to be the only independent (besides Notre Dame and maybe UCONN/UMASS). We are gong to have trouble scheduling games and, as importantly, scheduling home games down the road. And, we need the money that the AAC will give us in terms of TV deals and more people at Michie for better games.
What happens when the AAC, Sun Belt and Conference USA say they dont want to play us anymore or make a deal amongst themselves to play each other. We will be playing Delaware State and Lehigh a lot of times.
I am extremely confident that the WP brass is working on a deal that will allow Army to maintain its deal with CBS sports for home games and the money that comes with it.
Army beat a good UTSA team today. With the right coaching and the right recruiting, we can be competitive in the AAC. Navy is...they are not the best team in the conference and not the worst....but they belong.
