Re: BC Game Thread
Daily is proving to be a zero sum performer: game costing plays equal game winning plays. Bad game management by Monken and team there at the end. Hadn't really stopped BC run game all day. Better to let them score after 1st and goal at the 4 and play for the tie then let them run the clock down and score anyway.

Re: BC Game Thread
To state the obvious, that was a huge disappointment. The game was ours for the taking but we gave it away. The biggest disappointment (besides the baffling pitch play) was the complete disaster of our special teams. Two punts less than twenty yards, an offsides penalty that gave BC a first down and then the ill timed substitution on the FG attempt that forced us to use a timeout and ended up costing us 4 points. And speaking of substitutions, why did we continually substitute late on offensive. Coaches needed to adjust.

Re: BC Game Thread
Might be the biggest mental mistake i’ve seen on that forward pass
The fact that was even an option on that play, in that situation, is mind blowing

Re: BC Game Thread
If you mean it “was even an option,” as in “drawn up that way in the playbook,” I’d bet we wouldn’t find it. If that was a designed play, I’m sure the diagram would show the back/receiver clearly behind the QB at the moment of the pitch. There was a similar play in another game on TV yesterday (I can’t remember which one); it’s an easy mistake to make at full speed.
To me, it looked more like a case of a QB, in the heat of the moment, making what turned out a bad decision. While the poor outcome is both obvious and really all that mattered, I cannot fault the QB’s heart and effort in terms of trying to make a play. Yes he’s a junior, but as so many here pointed out over the summer, he had very few meaningful snaps before the ULM game this year. I’m hopeful he’ll learn from that mistake and grow from it moving forward.

I agree with this take completely. Daily was looking to make a play. Unfortunately, he lost awareness of where he was on the field, but I can’t fault the kid for trying to make a big play at a critical point in the game. I wish he went down, and I’m sure he does too, but sometimes bad decisions happen for a variety of reasons; it doesn’t mean we need to fire the entire coaching staff or bench the player.wp1994 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 11:46 amIf you mean it “was even an option,” as in “drawn up that way in the playbook,” I’d bet we wouldn’t find it. This team has given all they got. They will and have already improved and are learning the new system.
It takes time. Always does.

Re: BC Game Thread
There are times when the QB has to be under center. On the pitch, it was a hairs breadth of success. No real fault of the QB.

Re: BC Game Thread
No. It was a fault of the QB. Excusable due to trying to win, loss of situational awareness or whatever, but those don't wipe away the fault for the illegal forward pass. The penalty and loss of down are in the record books.
