We’ve had a lot of discussion about our Offense, Offensive Line, and huge number of turnovers. I am curious about what people think about our D.
The typical path to an Army W is a ball control O that keeps the opponent’s O on the sideline and limits the time the D is on the field. On this scenario, our D is not required to be dominant, but to get the ball back in the O’s hands.
While I hat to admit it, I thought Newberry’s approach of “Get 6” when he was the squid’s DC made a lot of sense. His analysis said that if their D could get any combination of 6 turnovers, 3-and-outs, or 4th down stops then they win.
I think the philosophy is important. If you believe the “Get 6” approach, you are willing to take chances to get one of the key plays, even if you give up some big plays to do so.
Here’s how our D has done vs. this metric:
ULM: Got 4: 2 Int, 2 3&O
DS: Got 8: 2 Fum, 5 3&O, 1 4th
UTSA: Got 5: 1 Fum, 3 3&O, 1 4th
SYR: Got 4: 1 Int, 3 3&O
BC: Got 2: 1 Int, 1 3&O
Troy: Got 3: 1 Fum, 2 3&O
LSU: Got 1: 1 3&O
Our average is 3.9 overall
Our average minus DS and LSU is 4.3
On our two best games overall (DS and UTSA), the D got 8 and 5. In our last 3 crappy games, the D got 6 total.

Re: Perspective on Our Defense?
Good Review. I wasn't really expecting a lot of stops against LSU as that offense is potent, but I didn't think our offense would stay in their hotel rooms after flying down here either.
