Uniforms

I am in the vast minority on uniforms when I say the two teams should wear the traditional at home and away uniforms for the big game.
I know Nike and Under Armour give the gear for free for the advertisement but still why change tradition when you don't have to change?
Army never changed unis from 1943 on so this new designs now seen, just doesn't resonate with me.
Shiny gold helmet with black stripe, black or white jersey, shiny gold pants, black and gray stipe on pants, covered white socks to knee, gold lettering on jersey numbers, black shoes.
Example would be the 1963 Army-Navy game.
Old guys like me don't like change I guess.
I do know I like honoring the various units that have served us well in the past but I still like the old bygone uniforms we wore for decades years back.

I think there are some good reasons for the special Army uniforms for Army/Navy.
1. They build excitement for the game. You see lots of media coverage of the uniforms that Army and Navy don’t get normally.
2. They connect the Army to the Army football team. While West Point grads always care about the game much of the rest of the Army has less interest. Honoring a unit increases that interest. I’ve seen enlisted soldiers wearing the hoodies or t-shirts from the different uniform drops around my limited National Guard units because they previously served in a unit honored. Connecting to the Army is a pretty good way to connect with the big Army
3. Selling gear. This stuff sells. While I’m sure licensing isn’t a huge driver of revenue, it is something. And it keeps Nike interested in providing gear to the teams for free. Plus, it provides more billboards for the academy walking around in public.

Yeah. I'm torn between the traditional and new unis. Generally prefer the traditional, but there are exceptions, such as when we can get camo out of them like the white we had in the snow storm in '17...good thing we weren't a passing team.

I tend to be a traditionalist when it comes to uniforms from an aesthetic standpoint, but the different uniforms each year have become kind of a cool part of the lead-up to the Army/Navy game. And, has been pointed out, the sell a ton of the gear each year, which can't hurt. Some years I like the way the jerseys for this game look, and some years I don't, but it's not some betrayal of tradition that they've added this aspect of it to the game.

I wish they would honor the Revolutionary War or the War of 1812.

It is all modern units.

Totally agree with Rabble on this one. Give me the gold helmets, white (or black) tops, and gold pants. Three stripes on the sleeves as well. The uniform worn in the 50s and 60s. That truly was a nice look.

Problem with sleeve stripes now is that except (sometimes) for QB's and Kickers, uniforms don't even really have sleeves anymore. They're like tucked under the shoulder pad. or so short you can't see sleeve stripes anyway.

I believe years back there was an NCAA rule that all football pants must cover the knees. You look today, no one has their knees covered. They all look like they are wearing short pants.
Does anybody know if that rule is still in effect or was that rule dropped or just ignored in today's game.??

Knee pads are no longer required. They were kind of worthless anyway.
