Re: Thatcher to call plays for A/N game
To summarize the point you are all essentially making: JM has no obligation to broadcast who will be calling the plays so why would the representation that Thatcher will call them be anything other than deceptive ?

Rab, I think we lost that identity decades ago. Army-Navy isn't even considered to the the top college football rivalry by many anymore. Moving to the AAC isn't what caused that - it's the changing landscape of college football.

Here's the reality, if we let Thatcher call the plays and we run out of Shotgun the whole game and we lose people are gonna lose their minds. If we are not under center and we lose then it's gonna be bad.
PD
i think it would be prudent to have some plays we can run out of the gun as an adjustment, but hopefully have some wrinkles out of it that they aren't expecting...my fear is that we will randomly run the gun and everyone will know that we are doing a qb off tackle based on our formation
i have a feeling that we will run triple under center, and then when navy loads up to stop the run, we will FINALLY hit our tight end up the seam

Re: Thatcher to call plays for A/N game
I worry that with three weeks preparation Coach Monken, who I believe has always been disingenuous about his reasons for bringing in the underqualified, by Division 1 standards, Drew Thatcher to be his offensive coordinator, while even contemplating the use of significantly underqualified Mike Viti in any capacity other than as a coach of running backs, will be determined to base his offense in the game against on the shotgun formation and a modified "air raid" passing attack. If he does so, the game that can be won on the ground by Army's stable of hard-running backs, starting with Quarterback Bryson Daily including Buchanan, Udoh, Johnson and especially Tyson Riley, who was started, idiotically in my subjective opinion, at tight end to begin the season, can easily be lost. Army instead should build on what was done against Air Force, Holy Cross and Coastal Carolina.
It will be seductive for Army to try to win this match from the gun and Coach Monken, I subjectively have always believed, wants to be elevated to a respectable Division I program at a substantially higher pay level or, like Coach Sutton with the New York Jets, a long term highly paid sinecure as a competent resident assistant . This football game could look like the Syracuse, Troy and Boston College games. The game is Army's to lose.

Surprise! Army uses shotgun and wins for the 6th time in the last 8.Boris23 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 3:02 pm I worry that with three weeks preparation Coach Monken, who I believe has always been disingenuous about his reasons for bringing in the underqualified, by Division 1 standards, Drew Thatcher to be his offensive coordinator, while even contemplating the use of significantly underqualified Mike Viti in any capacity other than as a coach of running backs, will be determined to base his offense in the game against on the shotgun formation and a modified "air raid" passing attack. Yeah we didn’t win becoase of the shotgun but damn near most due to inability to put up points. Truth is defense won this game and this offense is still a disaster.
