Re: Bowl game set
I am a very loud anti-AAC guy but.....based on my friend group.....we played a game friday that nobody really gave a crap about (okay great if we win but really lets just not get hurt for navy)....to play Navy....and then to play a bowl game that nobody cares about at all against a team that I bet has half its starters not playing (the QB just portaled this evening). And our AAC strength of schedule was so awful we really couldn't even break into the conversation to overtake UNLV or Boise.
Sorry if I don't see how being in a conference really does much for our brand at all other than make our schedule makers lives easier.

Re: Bowl game set
Our AD signed a dopey contract that locked us into a bowl game that hasn't been relevant since the 1990s.

I feel like Mike Buddie flies under the radar due to Monken's excellence. Buddie is at best an average AD - people say Army was contracted to Indy Bowl and there wasn't much we could do... well he signed it. And the deal should have opt-outs and he SHOULD have connections to politick and work his way into a bowl game deserving of a 13 win team. He doesn't and he didn't.
AAC is a dog and I am not on the Buddie bandwagon, at all.

Re: Bowl game set
So if Army was committed to the Independence Bowl separate from the league tie-ins, that might have been the reason Army is playing there. Four AAC teams are playing in a bowl against a P4 opponent so being in the AAC does not seem to make that difficult. That Army, undefeated in the league and winning the league championship is not playing a P4 team is disappointing and unfortunate.
Regardless, it is what is now set. All effort and focus now must be on beating Navy. After that, beat Marshall and cap off a great season.

Re: Bowl game set
I don't think we really want to be disrespecting Marshall, a good program and a tough opponent year-to-year. We're only a year away from wishing we had been invited to a bowl.
I just don't get the bowl and how we ended up there. Does anyone have the actual facts to it? I mean how could Army have stayed in an obligation to the Independence bowl after joining a conference, that already has bowl obligations, if indeed we had such an obligation. If that is the case, however, it may be advantageous as bowl payouts are generally paid to the conference versus the team. If Army gets to keep all of the payout from the Independence bowl, that may be better than sharing the payout across the AAC from the other four games.

Re: Bowl game set
I don’t have any inside information, but from what we know, the Independence Bowl agreement that Army had survived us joining the AAC (like the Army Navy Game). We didn’t get a better bowl offer (at least in terms of payout - as someone posted earlier Navy and Tulane are getting lower payouts). I don’t think the AAC had (or had the opportunity to) do much about it. They did a pretty good job with their other teams.
For what it’s worth, the Athletic rated the Army Marshall game as a top-5 non CFP bowl worth watching. Having 2 G5 champions play makes some sense. It is just frustrating not to have an opportunity to knock off a P4 opponent as we have the team to do that this year.

Re: Bowl game set
The Navy AD is not nice, but he gets the job done and makes the hard decisions. He has Navy playing premier opponents in bowl games. He landed Oklahoma this year. I bet we played nicely in the process and did not force the issue.keco616 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 1:19 amI feel like Mike Buddie flies under the radar due to Monken's excellence. Beating Florida and Oklahoma does more for the program than defeating the Sun Belt champion. If they win, Navy will end up with more prestige this bowl season than us.

Re: Bowl game set
Marshall as of November 2024 is a very good team that might be favored to beat us but......by the time the bowl game comes around, it is very likely that ANY player on their team worth a darn is in the portal. The team we will play at the end of the month will not be the same marshall team.kfan12 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 9:24 am I don't think we really want to be disrespecting Marshall, a good program and a tough opponent year-to-year. Their star QB just portaled yesterday along with a few other players and I would be $$ they will not be the last rats to jump off the sinking ship (Along with their coach leaving to go to southern miss)
