With so many new QBs in an offense that runs the QB quite often, you need to have some full-contact practices to evaluate the guys you have. Only Daily has played in games so I think it’s appropriate to have the other guys having contact in practice to see how guys react. Plus, it’s possible this was a non-contact injury and nobody hit him!

Coleman, Robinson, and Harris will need to step up as backups. That’s football.
Yeah, it does suck but guys like Frank Harris of UTSA --(7 years} and Sam Hartman of Wake Forest and Notre Dame {6 years} seem to get away with this bullshi$. !! :?

Hey, Frank and Sam, go out and get a real job, will ya?

I'm not worried about Meredith. Sucks to get injured but that's part of the game. Frankly I think red jersey's do more to hurt QBs than having them play like everyone else. There are no red jersey's on Saturdays. I digress.

We had better be more concerned about these types of comments from Monken's interview:

1. Too many 3 and outs on offense
2. Not sustaining blocks on the o line
3. Mishandling balls
4. Running backs getting hit behind the line of scrimmage
5. And most importantly, he said is a couple times, Negative plays on offense.

I didn't see the scrimmage but if his comments are indicative of where our offense is right now it's not good. Maybe he's being overly critical. I sure hope so because if we are not better with this different offense there is going to be a lot of upset folks I'm afraid.

Agree P&D that Jeff's comments were troubling.
I'm not gonna BABBLE about it, but it was not what we hoped for.
Even the spring game seemed to have fewer offensive mistakes. We've got 2 weeks to fix things...

Fortunately, we open the season with two winnable games. ULM will not be a pushover, but is definitely winnable. Two more weeks to get the new O right, then two games to tighten it up then onto a huge challenge at UTSA. It will be an interesting ride for sure.

Target WrekDivr!
We actually DO have all that time to get things right. ULM, even away, is not a team that will outmatch us in talent, so with a good, strong effort, we can prevail. Then we improve in what most experts call the largest amount, between weeks 1 and 2, to face FCS Delaware State in Michie. By the time we travel to UTS we will have had every opportunity to hone and strengthen our offense, and we'll either sink or swim the rest of the year...

I’m not going to get too worked up about comments coming out of the first scrimmage. Defense is almost always ahead of the offense at the beginning of a season. And Monken is usually pretty critical in his comments (see previous seasons when he says things like we couldn’t beat anyone the way we practices/scrimmaged today, etc). I expect he will be most critical after the final scrimmage.

That thought did cross my mind too.

Here's my optimism. I really do hope that Monken and staff have figured out something nobody has really thought of and know how to make this work. That way if I'm wrong, and trust me I sure hope I am, then there is nothing but upside. He is usually pretty critical about the team. I just thought these comments were fairly specific as opposed to past years. Truth is we won't know until we get to Monroe. So only a few days left till we see what happens.

When Monken is not super critical is when I worry. Last pre season is a perfect example. He was fairly positive about the team’s progress throughout

JM’s comments were not only specific, they were about our biggest concerns about the new O: the plays form slower from the shotgun and we don’t know if our line can hold blocks that long. A FB dive from the flexbone happens very fast.

When JM says that backs are getting hit behind the line, that is my worst nightmare for the new offense. We are only 2 weeks into camp, so there is still time to get better (and I think we will).

I agree RBs getting hit behind the LOS surely doesn't sound good. And I think the idea of the O line transitioning to an easier scheme or at least one more familiar doesn't gel with his comments. But we will see. Maybe he's just over selling it to set expectations.
