While I hope this doesn’t happen, this extension won’t hold JM back if his ultimate goal is a P5 job. Luke Fickell signed an extension at Cincinnati in Feb 2022 and is coaching Wisconsin in 2023.
I want JM to stay until he retires and I hope this extension helps make that happen. Ultimately, JM will decide.

Re: Monken signs contract extension
To be honest, I was thinking along the same lines when I first heard of the extension. But I don't think JM would be a good fit for this era of free agency in college football and I believe the P5 train left the station in Lawrence KS a few seasons ago.WrekDivr wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 9:22 am While I hope this doesn’t happen, this extension won’t hold JM back if his ultimate goal is a P5 job. Also, for what it's worth, Luke Fickell is only the latest of four consecutive head coaches who left Cincinnati after negotiating a contract extension. Of the four, Tommy Tubberville was the only one didn't use UC as a stepping stone to a better coaching job. Cincinnati is obviously not a final destination for an ambitious head coach.

Re: Monken signs contract extension
I am just glad we have the extension at over 2m per year so that the idiot journalists can stop putting out Monken's name for every job opening that happens to include G5 jobs that are paying $1m a year.
