I also think that "laughingstock" is a bit over the top ... this isn't the 1940s anymore, and we are not getting 4 and 5 star players. Losing to ND does not make us a joke of a program.
I was optimistic that it would be a good game, but that feeling went away after the first 3 and out ... you could just see the differences in programs. And that's not a bad thing ... we aren't trying to get NFL caliber players. But this does show that although the AAC is not a good conference, it's probably the right place for Army and Navy right now.
Last point - sure it was about the money. Why did UMass play UGA? For a big payday. Rab, unless you want to pony up and pay the coaches, just recognize that this is what modern college football is all about. Again, we're not in the 40's, 50's, or even 90's anymore.
Actually, a real last point - now I know why I don't watch NBC ... the broadcasters are homers for ND. I realize that's NBC is ND's station, but it would have been nice to not have to have the broadcasters slobbering all over ND all the time.
Beat Em!
We should play ND every year.
I thought the announcers were fine. Engle's son is a clear nepo hire but Todd Blackledge is one of the best in the business. We lost 49-14, of course, ND would receive more praise.

We have moved on from beating this dead horse to digging up its carcass and shooting it.

Why should we play Notre Dame each year?
Is not enough that we are 0-16 since 1958?
I don't like to be a glutton for punishment. Enough of this carnage. Either play us when Michie is fully rebuilt or forget them forever. I am tired of being embarrassed, sad, angry and full of the Notre Dame BULL with their Shamrock Series. Nostalgia for this game died decades ago.

It'll be ok. Think we ran into one of the better versions of ND this year.

I'm sure it's logistically impossible now, but I think Army playing ND every year would've been a great addition to an otherwise bland AAC schedule.
Navy has played ND every year since the 1920's (without a single game being played on their home field) and has survived even a 43 game losing streak in pretty good shape. Was it only two years ago that a 4-8 Navy team that had losses to Army and Delaware on their resume lose by a field goal to a 9-4 Irish squad?
I don't understand the defeatist attitude about playing against a team that lost to Northern Illinois.
We're not talking about taking a pounding on a weekly basis like joining a P5 conference here. 9-1 instead of 10-0. End of story.

Whenever this topic comes up-----it's the same ole song. Notice how we ALWAYS hear about how YOU feel-----and never once do we hear about how the kids feel about this game being on our schedule------or how we got people across the nation to talk about our program which hasn't happened for some time?
Yes----we got it handed to us. We got beat by a team which arguably could win the National Title. That isn't something ND has been able to say for a good while now.
I've said it before and I'll say it again-----one thing is very clear. You were never an athlete.
I was-----and I'd always welcome a chance to face the best out there--------without giving a s&#@ less about how one particular fan feels.
Moreover-------we didn't hear you complain nearly this much when we faced Oklahoma or Michigan or Ohio State in recent years. I'm not a fan of Notre Dame at all-------but I don't let that cloud my judgement. Your hatred of the ND program is something we're all too well aware of.
Go grab any five of our recent recruits at random and ask them if they'd love to face ND------or Oklahoma/Michigan/Ohio State in their upcoming careers.
So as I said------it really isn't about the kids. It's all about you.

The only thing I want to respond to you and your dameaning post about me DOC, is that I was an athlete in my younger years but also a General Manager of a team you may or not have known and who still operates today. Think about it for a bit and see if you can up with some sort of answer. Until then, please dispense your vitriol . You appear to post only when you want to mock me. You have not posted once this entire Notre Dame week. Not a very good fan of your alma mater I believe.

Doc, you are a tough dude. Sure I love the kids. For almost 80 years I love the kids. I want them to win with dignity, honor but with the competition they can handle and not an opponent we have no chance to compete with on a level basis. It isn't about me at all. I just hate when any teams give us a bad beating like LSU, Notre Dame or way back when we played Nebraska in our worst loss ever.
I love the academy, the coaches we have and the team the school represents.
Yes, I was an athlete but one who played within the limits of our capabilities.
Why then with that in mind, why doesn't Notre Dame or any other power play a Yale, Dartmouth or a Columbia anymore? They are athletes too.
If I didn't love the cadets, I would have rooted

You bitched about us joining the conference. I don't hear you bitching anymore since we have made it to the Finals in that conference.
You bitched that our schedule was lackluster------but I don't see you bitching now that we won 9 games.
General Manager?? You told us years ago that you were a liquor salesman.
So just to be clear-------you want Army to win every game------but you reserve the right to bitch about who we play-----and reserve the right to bitch when we play someone better than we are. Pick a lane----and stay in it.
Know what you want? You want the whole world to go back to the time when you grow up. Ain't gonna happen.
And by the way. You glorify the past such as the Davis/Blanchard days-----and yet you fail to mention the fact that we enjoyed a football advantage during the War years. You fail to mention how many players from those teams played for other schools before coming to West Point.
Whatever. Read your two posts again-----and see I.....I......I......I......I......I......I.

Yes I was a General manager of a sports team and after a liquor salesman in semi retirement.
As for anything else you post, it is always about me and not about the football program.
Why is that?
I posted quite often about the ND game, some decent parts about the game and some critical about the game. You posted nothing about the game and when you did, it was only about me.
Are you really an Army football fan or do you just want to personally berate me on a public forum?
Listen dude, I know lots of people like you. Get off the kick and act nice. I am not hurting anybody here. Just writing my thoughts.
One more thing, you would be shocked about my sports past but I am going to keep that one a secret to everybody, especially you on this forum.
In conclusion, you are not a fan of Army Football but just a guy who likes to belittle another who actually knows damn little about anything.
What's your Cullum Number????
You don't represent West Point at all in my opinion. West Pointers just don't do that.
