One thing to note: it’s not the highest rank G5 team that gets in, it’s the highest ranked G5 team that wins their conference. So it doesn’t matter how high Boise climbs, if they lose the Mountain West Championship Game, no playoff for them (at least not in place of a G5 team).

100% true, but UNLV and Boise State are both ranked and will likely play for the Mountain West championship. That winner is very likely the G5 representative in the CFP.
Hopefully, Memphis will beat Tulane and lower their ranking so Army can play the AAC championship game at Michie.

Army is out of the CFB rankings. 3 G5 teams are included: Boise State (11), Tulane (17), and UNLV (22). Notre Dame moves up one spot to 5.
With this result, it is highly unlikely for Army to make the CFP. Disappointing but not surprising.
Following that butt whooping I think this is a good thing. Hopefully the team feels embarrassed/disrespected and refocuses for the remaining schedule with the focus and chip on the shoulder intensity that is needed to beat the teams left.

That's why you've gotta root for chaos. UNLV loses to 3-9 Nevada this week, putting 4 loss Colorado State in the MWC Championship Game. Then Colorado State beats Boise in the Conference title Game, Army beats UTSA and Tulane and gets in. Easy peasy.

Be careful what you wish for. If Notre Dame has moved up to #5 in the polls, doesn't that mean that as of now G5 representative will be playing Notre Dame in the first round? Not sure I'd want to sit through that all over again.
It's not CFP or bust. Has to be a better matchup somewhere out there for a bowl game.

Totally agree it’s not CFP or bust. If this was August and someone forecast the Army would go undefeated in the AAC, wi the championship, win the CIC, and win a bowl game we would all have happily taken that outcome. Every bit of it is still on the table and this team has a huge opportunity to finish a historic run.
FWIW, Sports Illustrated projects Army in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport vs. West Virginia.

In the “be careful what you wish for category”, I think I will not be rooting for any more chaos when it comes to Army. The ND game revealed all I needed to see this season: while Army is a good team having a historic season, the teams headed into the CFP are at a totally different level. I’d prefer to see Army win out from here…win the AAC and CinC and be rewarded with a bowl game they have a chance to be competitive in, rather than some kind of combination of chaos resulting in being the 12th seed in the CFP and “getting” to face the #5 team (ND? Ohio State? Georgia? Texas?). Another beat down by a top 10 program is not how I’m hoping the season ends.
First things first…this is not going to be an easy game this weekend against UTSA. Hoping the team can shake off the loss and the injury situation doesn’t create holes that can’t be replaced.
