Yes they were. To think Monken’s constant flirting with other offers doesn’t impact the players and coaches, you are wrong.

I think it’s obvious Monken wants out of West Point but no one will give him a chance.

I disagree .
Would forego a legacy at West Point to go to another school to test the waters? For what?
His legacy here is secure. Lets say he goes to Purdue. With a TO chee. They would run him out of town within two years. Then what?
Legacy gone, forgotten and winds up retired or takes a job at Tulsa.
What can WP do? Offer the man his due ad I mean his due. If you can afford a 200 million quarter piece of a new stadium, then you can pay the man a salary commensurate with most power 4 schools.
Do NOT MISS the opportunity. I never did and I am very satisfied for it all.

Rabble - Udoh is operating under the same rule every cadet is held to. Leave before the first academic class of your junior year and you don’t owe anything. He isn’t getting special treatment. Damn, that rule was there when I was a cadet in the early 90s. You don’t have to agree with it but don’t call the kid a disgrace to the academy. You are stuck in the 50s and if you fast forward a bit you probably wouldn’t be so grumpy. The landscape of college football has changed and changed a lot recently. It’s unfair of you to bemoan a kids actions when he is just operating under the rules.

I agree both with Rabs emotions and your assessment. The difference between Udoh's situation and the 90's is kids left going into their junior year because they came to the realization that perhaps the West Point and military life wasn't for them. The portal is a bit different in that they leave for potentially greener, and I mean $ here, pastures instead of a life choice. Still you are correct. The rules are the as they've been for a very long time.

Dan Hinote entered USMA in 1995 to play forward in hockey. In 67 games, across 2 years, he scored 41 goals and had 48 assists. He was drafted by the Avalanche his Yearling year and left the academy. He played 12 seasons in the NHL and won a Stanley Cup in 2001. I doubt he regrets the decision he made to leave USMA.

Not sure anyone really cares what a specific individual regrets. That isn't the discussion at all. In the end it is probably better for both Hinote and the Army that he left.

As a Pirates fan, Skeens left Chair Force seeking money. He ended up with the #1 pick and Livvy Dunne. I doubt he is sad.

However, I do dislike how much fans hype his patriotism. He chose fame and money over service.

I don't think that there's a correlation between the two. You can still be patriotic and leave the academy. For the 1-2 players across all sports that could get drafted, there's been so much uncertainty whether they will be allowed to go pro that it makes sense to leave before making the commitment.

I think it's pretty cool that someone was willing to give academy life a shot. We all know that nothing is guaranteed, and if baseball hadn't worked out, maybe Skenes would be dating Jenny from Colorado Springs instead!
