Re: Monken Wake Forest
And, for all the talk of WF being a good landing spot for JM, the immediate reporting on the vacancy there does not mention Coach nearly as much as did the reporting for the Purdue, WVU and UNC jobs. Lots of mentions of former WVU coach Neal Brown, James Madison coach Bob Chesney, Candle from Toledo and Brad King, defensive coordinator @ KY, as well as others but only a few mentions of JM and none that put him at the top of any ones list. The one common denominator for the potential candidates is youth - most of those named are in their late 30s, early 40s. Who knows where the search will go but right now JM is by no means a lock @ WF...

Re: Monken Wake Forest
Paul Johnson and Coach N beat Notre Dame and won other signature games, including bowl games against good P5 teams.
Monken got boat raced both times and barely scrapped by a 6-6 Missouri team missing its star RB. (Coach N destroyed a 6-6 UVA team 49-7 with a 6-6 team)

Re: Monken Wake Forest
Navy got boat raced by the same Notre Dame team that Army did, and I don't believe Army played ND in any of the years that Navy got by them, so a bit of apples-oranges comparison there. I do agree with others that Army is too tight against Navy and a bit unimaginative/risk averse there. This year, we were simply not up for the game, but on the whole I don't believe Coach N is significantly better or worse than JM.Oliphant wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:02 am

One of our big problems with beating Notre Dame is we always play them after Navy does. So they get a live look at option football before Army even plays them.

I'm pretty sure that the experience against Navy helped ND by 0.01%. The game was won by the team that wanted it more. Kindof a theme in our two losses this year.ArmyRoadFan7 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 12:28 pm One of our big problems with beating Notre Dame is we always play them after Navy does. Don't forget that Navy turned the ball over 6 times or so during that game.
