Strength of schedule is an issue for sure. The good news is that Tulane is #25. If Army wins out, we will have wins over two top-25 teams, which will help the resume.

To see Colorado at 17 (2 losses) and Lousiville at 19 (3 losses) is discouraging. Whatever the algorithm is SOS is a major factor. We always knew we would have to beat ND to potentially get in but now we have to hope that win helps us jump 12 spots. I don’t see that happening. So that would lead us to needing a lot of help with other teams losing.
The criteria have always been whatever the committee wants to happen. They have never been consistent. Look at Indiana. They have played no one.

Well, the rules have been obvious for years, with most of the influence in College Football driven by the concentration of sports media in the Southeast:
1) The SEC must have more representation than anyone else, to the extent that they often favored having two SEC teams in the old four team format rather than four conference champions, even if it meant a rematch of an in-season game. (which resulted in an obvious disadvantage for the team who won in the regular season and shouldn't have been allowed to happen)
2) If they can't just have SEC teams in, only power 5 teams so that money can still be concentrated into those leagues, regardless of their out-of-conference success.
3) Try to minimize any involvement of non-power 5 teams, which continues under the 12-team format. (all about the $)

12-team format IMO should simply be 10 conference champions followed by the two teams with the best records after the conference championships. Seeding should solely be based on W-L record. Logic here being, if you aren't the best team in your league, why should you have a chance to be named the national champion.

I have found it interesting that the Group of Five Power Rankings have us for two weeks in the number 1 slot over Boise St.
As was said earlier the committee can use different criteria to choose who goes in. This is a big game against ND with massive implications for the program if we can upset 15.5 point favorite ND. However, Navy moved the ball against ND and was stopped by their unprecedented 6 turnovers. Hope that ND is looking past Army and trust Monken to get the team to move to the next level. Think NT was a good game to prep Army and tell offense they need to execute better against tough D’s

That ranking is interesting. I am skeptical (but hopeful) that the CFP committee will lift Army over BSU if we beat ND. They should, but there is a lot of space between us now. The good news is that Tulane is now also ranked. The best-case scenario for Army is for Tulane to beat Navy and Army to win out, including nearing Tulane in the championship game. That would significantly help our strength of schedule. Beating Tulane in the championship game MIGHT also be enough to get us in the CFP with a close loss to ND.

I think our only hope at CFP is to beat Notre Dame. It’s the only game that could help us jump the 12 teams currently ahead of us. I actually think we would only move up about 8 spots with an ND win but at least we would be in striking distance of the #12 spot. If we lose to ND even in a close game the best we can hope is that we don’t drop from # 24.

We don’t have to jump 12 spots. They just have to get in front of Boise St.

BSU is currently at 13 and Army is at 24. Without a stumble by BSU, we need to move up to 12.

Ok. I was interpreting it as him saying they need to pass all those other teams as well. I’m pretty confident Army beating Notre Dame and staying undefeated would jump thrm to where they need to be, but I apologize if I misunderstood

Don’t look now, but Coach Ken and SDSU are up 14-0 on Boise State and just recovered a fumble deep in Boise State territory.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if Coach K opened a door for Army to get into the playoffs?
