Since when is winning the CIC mediocrity?

The CIC is a battle among 3 teams. No one outside a Service Academy even knows or cares what the hell it is. Does anyone outside UM and Minnesota really care about the trophy they fight for? We have a goal every year of winning the CIC but we should stop holding it up as some gold standard. I would rather look at our record in conjunction with our end of year ranking and bowl berth/win as a judge of our season.

This team was better than 6-6. Yes, they won the CiC ... but they were gifted a win against AF and Navy can't beat a decent high school team. So, that's why there's so much negativity.

And to preempt the expected response - yes, I remember how bad Army football was 20 years ago and I'm happy that we are winning more than 2 games a season. But we should be winning more. And however the record of teams 20 years ago impacts this team is beyond me.

Many on this board have forgotten what it means to beat Navy. As a plebe in the '60's, it was "life or death". Gloom period (from Navy game to Spring flowers in Apr or May) was bad every winter and still is - cold, gray, overcast skies, gray stone buildings everywhere, gray forests, freezing temps and sleet, snow and a cold wind every other day; and most of all angry TACS, faculty and upperclassmen.
A Navy win changed the perception of almost everything, including grades, food, inspections - the hell with Gloom Period, Army beat Navy in the biggest game of the year.

Obviously, we all want improvements but please don't make light of a win over Navy, no matter how ugly or lucky. A W vs Navy is (almost) everything.

Its called being logical. After 35 years of fandom, seeing the absolute joke of a program we had. Paying money for tickets and flights to see us lose to holy cross or go 0-13 or lose to AF 9 times a decade….yes…i am thrilled with a 6-6 year and CiC

People forget that from 1989 to 2016, our 3rd best years was 1995. And we won 2 FBS games. Two

my dad and I have always said (especially during the terrible years when I was a cadet) that going .500 and beating Navy and getting to a bowl game is a great year. I've said before, and I'll say again. In 2021 we won 9 games but lost to navy. This year we only won 6 games, but beat both air force and navy. I'll take this year over the 2021 season any year.

I don't necessarily think going 6-6 should be the goal, and I think achieving 7-8 wins relatively routinely isn't out of the realm of possibility (and I think we gave away 2-3 games this year).

But i agree with you. especially given all of the changes going into this season + the tough schedule, hard to complain about 6-6 with the CIC. would rather be in our situation than in air force or navys situation this year.

i agree (and we didn't beat navy my entire four years i was there)

Held a top 25 team to 155 yards, were 18.5 underdogs, caused SIX turnovers……that equals gifted. Got it. You must be a real pleasure to be around

You mean back when Navy was a nationally relevant power? We beat a really bad team this year. And barely at that. The bar has to be higher than a 1 game season. Beating your rival is one thing but a 6-6 or losing record is mediocre by definition and that includes two FSC teams. This was not a good year. Our team underperformed in every metric except vs Navy and AF and let's not relititgate the gift that AF was and how bad Navy actually is.

We lost to ULM and UMASS. We scored 100 points less in total offensively. We had halves and halves with zero points to include a full half vs AF and Navy with NO POINTS. We had two games where we didn't put a point on the board (Troy and LSU). We didn't put up a TD vs ULM who went 2-10 and fired Terry Bowden. I mean my god we are happy with this?? Delaware State, Holy Cross, Navy, AF, Coastal, and UTSA. And at least we beat Holy Cross by a FG.

Yes and that is truly a disaster. Lots of bad leadership and poor football decisions happened. But we can't let that be the bar for success. And many of those years Navy was really good. In fact a win vs some of those Navy teams would be a marquee win. However we played an awful Navy team this year. And we are about a play away from losing this year's game too. We should have beaten them by 3 or 4 touchdowns and yet we are fighting for a goal line stand to prevent OT? Ridiculous. And why because offensively we have regressed throughout the season. 1 TD vs Navy. ONE. Even Todd Berry put up 28 vs Navy in his first year with a new Offense.

Yeah and kicked 3 FGs on a short field because you can't convert offensively. 6 Turnovers and two 4th down stops got us two TDs.

BTW people with high standards are never a pleasure to be around. Good isn't good enough. Our program is riddled with failure and mediocrity and it takes unpleasant people to root it out.

Look I'm happy we beat Navy and AF and won a CIC. But I'm totally unsatisfied with our overall performance to include the ones where we won.
