Future Bowl Line-up

It looks like Army will be placed in future bowls by ESPN, owner of 16 bowls.

Mr. McMurphy appears to know what he is talking about and way over my head as usual. I like to keep it simple by saying that Army must win enough to go bowling again. I will let the experts figure out where Army should play, when and where.

Actually, Army does not have a bowl tie-in for the next 6 seasons. It's if and where ESPN places us.

I read multiple places that if BYU won 6 games (last year), they were going to be placed in an ESPN bowl even over a 7 or 8 or 9 win team from (for instance) the MAC or CUSA

My assumption is that Army now has that same deal that BYU has. Win 6, and they are going bowling somewhere. Winning 6 games with Army's schedule should not be too greatly difficult

Nothing official has been released yet related to non-P5 leagues.

BYU and ESPN

Post by westcoastarmyfan » Wed Jun 05, 2019 12:39 am

BYU has a contract with ESPN. ESPN approached them years ago when they went indy, but ESPN told them they had to play a number of P5 schools in Sept for the contract to be finalized. Because of this, ESPN tries to get them into bowl games when they get the 6 wins. ESPN also helps line up the Sept games for them.

Why we don't have a tie-in at this point for the second year in a row is a question that should be explained by someone who knows, whether at WP or elsewhere.

Rab, we knew which years we weren't going to have tie-ins from 2014-2019 back in 2013. That is when the last contracts were made; and also when we were still wallowing. It did not help we missed out on several years worth of bowl tie-ins as a result of not reaching the requisite 6 wins when those contracts were made. The next 6 years' worth of contracts are being made now.

I believe we should have at least a chance for a bowl tie-in. Maybe having one which would have given us more impetus to get to 6 wins and the possibility to get one.
