ACC scheduling models removes away games…except Army

Post by wpgrad »

From News Observer:

Coming off a year in which the ACC played 10 road games at non-Power 5 opponents — and lost three of them — schools received new guidance from the league office: Don’t.

While the nonconference portions of the schedules to be released Monday are often set years if not decades in advance, the ACC has asked schools to schedule most, if not all, of their future nonconference road games at either Power 5 teams or Army.

Fodder for those who worry about our scheduling issues as an independent

It would be nice to get some of the bigger ACC teams to play at Michie.

Syracuse, BC and Wake will all play at michie. That not clemson, but it also shows teams still want to play army, ie, we dont need a conference

Matter of time. We will need one. As conferences grow especially past 16 teams they are going to move to mostly all conference schedules.

We won't need a conference as long as we like playing Patriot League, Ivy League, and HBCUs

I get that the Conf USA Experiment has really PTSD associated with it. Me included. However the money is headed to the conferences and there won't be room to be independent. Once ND falls, and that's only a matter of time, then it will totally be game over.

Agree to disagree. Many conferences either are 8 or want 8-game, 9 at most. No conference wants 10 or 11 in-conference games. And as they look to play teams, they will look to Army.

The only solution, join a conference like the sunbelt, doensn't accomplish anything anyways. Once you join a conference, you got 8/9 conference games, plus Navy and AF, and you aren't going to have anyone come to michie worth a darn anyways.

Personally I'd stay Indy until the last, final, dying second. I don't see that happening for decades. If anything, we are going to see a branch off of the top 40 teams to a separate "division" and then we can be independent forever cause no one is going to care about the teams left behind by the 40

The way this is headed all teams will eventually be in one huge conference (LOL). The schedules will all be just like they were independents. Than the cycle will redundantly repeat over and over and over again.

Who the hell do these conferences that call themselves the POWER 5 think they are? They think they are but as long as FBS exists, there will always be room for all the FBS teams. That is what the NCAA set up years ago.
The 40 or so teams will eventually break away and form their own division for the money, so the other 90 teams or so will be on their own minus the coverage from the media. TV wants only 40 teams to cover to simplify things llke the NFL. So why join a conference? Stay independent and choose who to play when you want to play. A conference commissioner will be avoided, and your own AD will call the shots as it should be.

10 or 11 conference game schedules will happen someday if the TV networks demand it.

The networks are behind realignment. If they want the future SEC with 20+ teams to play 10 or 11 conference games, it will happen.

The only way this happens is if the top 40 are so teams form a superleague. Which I actually think is the end game

And if that happens, army navy and everyone else is in the B league anyway so it wont matter

That will never last long. Without being able to play outside the conference, the bottom dwellers of any super conference will leave in a matter of 2-5 years and the cycle will start over as teams with the best records will find a way to challenge the super conference winners, and they will win. The majority of fans, when you add them all up, are NOT aligned to the top 40. Add agencies and corporations will not give up 50% or more of their intended audience so that the SEC can pay its coaches and commissioner more money. Folks paying the NIL money outside the P5 also have considerable power, all-told. I just don't see a handful of super conferences being able to shut out all the fanbases nationwide, but we will see.

As an aside, would be really helpful to force some of these bowl games out of SEC territory so that they have to compete in environmentally neutral or unfriendly sites and see how they really match up. Too much clout in that league is driven by bowl games that were once established for friendly weather to support stadium attendance. Right now, they mostly play within SEC territory and rarely venture out into the weather and hostile fanbases around the country. IMO, the only thing that will fix the kowtowing to the SEC is a playoff system similar to the FCS.
