Has anyone one heard or know the person I was at the games in that period and never heard of him. There was one leading back that just continued to carry the ball, but his name escapes me ..cavanaugh was the coach however. this guy looks like he then coached for penn state... read the ny post wife is suing ncaa for wrongful death from head injuries. maybe they should include paterno

Concussions were far more frequent then, mostly because of how we were taught to tackle and run. It was forehead first, period. Use the crown of your helmet as a weapon. Bull your neck and ram the opponent between the numbers, whether he was a runner or a tackler. Spearing, it was called, and it caused a huge number of head and neck injuries. 14 concussions for Merlino.....good God. Only a minority of coaches realized the danger and taught their players to tackle/ram with shoulders, not the head. It's very sad, but thankfully it's also a thing of the past. New techniques and new penalties...
