So if Army joins AAC, what happens if.....

Post by wpgrad »

So if Army joins the AAC, which I think it is very stupid move.....

....and if the Army and Navy game does not count as a conference game, which is the discussion on the internet so that Army-Navy can remain a stand alone game....

....what happens if Army and Navy both go 8-0 in the AAC. The would then play the first week of december in the AAC championship game? And then play again the following week in the Army Navy game?

The whole idea is so dumb in so many ways it makes my head hurt.

Independence forever!!

I agree with you but in that situation I would hope they would make the Army-Navy Game also the AAC Championship Game.

The company that owns the TV rights for the AAC title isn't giving them up. And CBS isn't giving up A_N rights.

They pay for 2 games, they want two games.

That situation is similar to two teams playing in their league championship game and then meeting again in the NCAA championship game like Georgia and Alabama did in 2021.

if having Army and Navy both going 8-0 is a major concern about joining the AAC, maybe it's not such a bad idea after all. Considering that SSA Actuarial Life Table only expects me to live another 12.3 years, it's a pretty safe bet that it's not gonna happen in my lifetime :) .

I’m with you. Incredibly small chance this ever happens.

I do wonder though, would we still get our one game against a big time opponent every year?

Incredible. In my youth I was told that US senators lobbied and begged for Army to play a school from their state. So perhaps we should get congress to legislate that any college getting federal funds is obligated to play a home and home series with Army or Navy within a 5 year span. at A/N request. And while they are at it since Congress likes to investigate maybe they should investigate how the NCAA lost control of this thing called college football and regional leagues and rivalries, to begin with. Some will say Congress will never do that, and probably correct....They are too busy trying to avoid being indicted for their greed,

I would say let’s leave the politicians out of Army Football. Especially congress.

The main reason for Army joining any conference as they say would be because of scheduling difficulties if they are all alone as an independent.
That is pure hogwash. bull shit and cow manure.
There is not a team in the country who would not love to play West Point.
Army remains one of the most prestigious, respected and well- loved institutions. Just for the privilege of playing a historical giant of the game , there are few, if any, teams who would refuse the opportunity to play Army at any time and any place. Most schools want the need and exposure of plying a military school for the simple reason of the patriotism it would give their own institution.
The reason why Army would join is simply the monetary gain it would bring to the academy. Nothing more than that. Admirable but just plain stupid especially for the fans who support our program.
A steady diet of the same old teams on the schedule year after year such as UAB, East Carolina, Tulane and the other such "luminaries" as these just mentioned will soon tire quickly and soon the attendence will drop
propitiously and then what do you do?
OK, OK, you win the AAC. So what? Big deal. You're not a Power 5 league any way. Wow, a shiny big trophy for your trophy case.
Listen guys, the only trophy i want to see in front of Jeff Monken's office overlooking Michie Stadium is the CIC TROPHY !!! THAT IS THE ONE we play for every single year and the only trophy that counts in my book.

What are we all looking for here? A trophy won in a half -ass conference that brings this school only a stinking trophy. Our guys want to play for the honor and privilege of competing against teams from ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, and not a bunch of half-baked left- overs from the south.
I want to play a Duke ,a North Carolina, a UCLA, a Washington, a TCU, a Purdue an Oregon and yeah, even a Holy Cross or a Dartmouth. I love the diversity of seeing teams from all over the country come to West Point and for West Point to travel to their home. That is exciting and it should be for any Army fan.
For 75 years i have done it with many happy memories of trips taken to the 4 ends of this great land of ours
I'm year the end of my days here but I would not trade it for anything. One word of advice, stay INDEPENDENT !!
Be your own boss. Schedule your own teams and stop chasing the Almighty Dollar. Eventually , you will get you in trouble on and off the field.

I don't understand the leverage that the AAC brings to the table. If the two academies were to insist that they play one and only one game per season as a stand alone game in December, would a second tier conference like the AAC actually object? I don't think Navy would object when you consider the outcome of their only trip to the AAC title game - a one-sided beatdown vs Temple in their own (half empty) stadium. A game where their QB was injured, forcing them to start a third stringer vs. Army and lose for the first time in 15 years.

I gotta believe the AAC needs the academies more than the academies need them.
