I've followed college football for a long time and used to love it - no more. This is not an original point, but the transfer portal has ruined it. It is analogous to the pro football draft, and puts teams who can not employ it at a severe competitive disadvantage. The porous eligibility rules just compound this. These factors, plus the inherently limited ability of Army to recruit from the better players each year, suggest very difficult years ahead.
Wish I could be positive.

Re: The State of College Football
THE TRANFER PORTAL IS ONE OF THE WORST IDEAS EVER TO HIT COLLEGE FOOTBALL. UNFAIR TO THE ACADEMIES.
Redshirting should be dropped also. You play 4 years and you are out. The clock starts when you first arrive on campus as a freshman. If you get injured and can not play, your clock does not stop. No more 5th year players who once got injured.
If you transfer, you sit out a year BUT the clock still runs. You stop playing when your original class when you
first entered graduates.
Let us bring the word AMATEUR back to the college game.
if the NFL does not like it? Start your own junior league. Hell, you got the money, so use it .No NIL crap either.
Get tough with this because the game as we all know it will crumble from within.

Re: The State of College Football
Agree on almost all points, but will add the ridiculous conference realignments that have no respect for the traditional rivalries that make the game special. I'll also throw in the bloated playoff system that will not only negate the value of the regular season, but will take forever to determine not who's the best team, but who got hot at the right time..
I'll only disagree with the word amateur. I'm sure we can go back a lot further than Reggie Bush's $350K Heisman and Matt Leinart maintaining his eligibility by taking one single class in ballroom dancing to know that the term student athlete has been a sham for a long time.
