To me, 6-6 is the cutoff. A bowl is a reward to these kids who have worked so hard all year, in addition to their obligations as cadets at West Point. Going to play in a bowl, often times in a warm weather locale, where friends and family can travel, is a pretty cool thing. We all have an opinion. Mine is if we are 6-6 and receive the waiver, I'd love to see us go. That means we would enter on a hot streak, having won 4 straight games, including over AF, Coastal Carolina, and Navy. A loss to Coastal or Navy would nullify all of this, as a sub .500 team should not be bowling. This has not been the best year, and we continue to win ugly, but a 6-6 Army team is a lot more appealing than most other 6-6 teams, because Army fans will travel well no matter the venue, and in the 10 bowls we have played in since the mid 1980's, we have either won or the game has gone to the wire. Even this year, with two weeks or so to heal and prepare, I think we'd be competitive.

James Madison was just denied a waiver - unlikely Army will be granted one.

Maybe, but JMU's waiver request was different than the basis Army would rely on. If JMU's waiver would have been granted it likely would have forced the change to the current rule that requires new FBS programs to sit out a year from bowls. Army's waiver request, should it be attempted would be fact based and will not require a whole scale change of a rule....

JMU will be in a bowl game. They and Jacksonville State have to be selected before any 5-7 squad. And there will be enough openings.

JMU's waiver was related to eligibility for the Conference Championship and a possible NY6 berth.

JMU is ranked and undefeated an not going to a bowl because of some ridiculous rule that never has and still doesn't make any sense.

Army is 'rank' and 4-6 losing to UMass and damn near to Holy Cross and 2 FCS wins part of their 4 win total. Even if somehow the Mystical Roosters accidentally eat the same 'gummies' that AF chowed down on and Army pulls off a miracal and then beats the dumpster fire currently burning in Annapolis they will not get invited to the Valvoline Oil Weed Eater Bowl (good one wpgrad). No chance.
