Rumors on the AF move to the AAC

Word on the street is that AF has an issue with their game being "in conference" with Navy and Army while the A/N game is not. In my opinion, this is going to set the wheels in motion that when the current 5 year conctract for A/N ends in 2027, the 2028 game will be moved to November and will become an in-conference game.

The good news is that if AF becomes in conference, this will open up a 3rd game each year for army to play whomever. And if Navy becomes a conference game in 2028, now we have 4 openings which would make ole wpgrad ALOT happier about being in a conference cause we'd have some flexibility

Based on what I’ve been able to read, the AAC is aggressively pursuing AF. It seems like AF is taking a wait and see approach, but may be working behind the scenes. There is a $17 million buy out to leave the Mountain West, but the remaining teams (after 4 leave for the PAC-something) could vote to dissolve the conference and eliminate the exit fee.

Their other obvious options are to stay in a reduced MW Conference which would create more flexible games in their schedule or pursue the PAC-something conference.

I would bet that the MW will pursue other teams, perhaps some from the AAC. Not sure there is any benefit for a team moving from the AAC to the MW, though. More likely moves up from the FCS.

Looks like AF staying in the Mountain West -

I would not like to see three option teams in the same conference with Army. I t makes it easier for teams to prepare and get accustomed to playing the option year after year - don't even like Navy being in the same conference lol
