Daily Return

Monken was quoted yesterday saying there is a “good chance” Daily plays at NT. Monken is usually very tight lipped so I think that’s a good sign. It’s amazing how different Army and NT are. NT has the 3 best offensive yard production in college football but their defense is horrid. They rely on a lot of possessions which hopefully we can take away with some ball control. If the line is Army +3.5 I would assume that factors in Daily not playing. Anyway my fingers are crossed. Coleman did a serviceable job but to continue the magic this season we 100% need Daily under center. And I do mean under center!!

Coleman did what was asked of him: don't turn the ball over, feed Udoh, keep the defense honest with a few completions. I think the coaching staff deliberately kept the offense conservative and very limited, especially once they saw how well the Army D was playing. If Coleman has to go vs. NT, I think we'll see a more aggressive offensive approach in order to keep pace with their high-powered offense.
That said, I sure hope Daily is back and ready. He's the starter for a reason and the offense will run more effectively with him in there for sure. I agree with you in terms of Monken's comments...he's not one to share much information regarding injuries and player status, so if he's describing it as a "good chance" then that's a very good sign on the prognosis of Daily's recovery, ability to practice this week, etc.

I would assume Monken won’t comment on Daily again until the last possible moment to achieve some tactical advantage?

Read a report about his press conference this week where Monken said he expects Daily back for practice this week and they would take a “we will see” approach. Assuming no lingering I’ll-effects, sounds like he should be starting Sat.

My guess is that Coleman starts and Daily suits up. If the offense struggles early, Daily will go in.

If he can play he should play.
We got cute with this proposed approach last year with UMASS. We started Harris at qb and got down two touchdowns before putting daily in the game. And then we lost.

Maybe I’m reading between the lines too much but it sounds like Coleman is starting. Sounds like he is having a good week of practice. Hopefully there is a big improvement between his first and second full games like there usually is between the first and second game of the season for a team.

You’d figure if there’s no chance he’s going to play, he won’t make the trip. So if we find out he got on the plane, we can infer he’s at least a game time decision.

I know this is all speculation but....if he is healthy enough to play, play him. End of story. Don't waste a quarter and then try to play catch up.
To use a baseball analogy....thats like having your Ace ready and able to throw but then throwing a backup to "see how he does first".
