Navy Loses to Rice
With the loss to Rice today I expect Navy to be even more hungry to win the CÍC and pop our seasons bubble. This may well be one of the greatest Army Navy games - I am pumped. Beat Navy

Re: Navy Loses to Rice
The good news is that a second Army-Navy game is now highly unlikely.
The bad news is that Navy has a good chance to get an extra week of rest for the CIC game. Here ‘s hoping that they can win out with Coleman until Daily can return in December. Any chance the Athletic Dept can possibly share any info on this?

Perhaps a little hangover from ND?
If Army and Navy both win out in the AAC, we will play them for the AAC championship. Army and Tulane are the only two teams without a loss and Navy plays Tulane in 2 weeks. If Navy beats Tulane (and wins out), they will both have one loss and Navy would hold the head to head tie breaker. If Tulane wins, they will play in the championship game.
Army still has to win out to play in the championship game. We opened at 3.5 point favorites vs. UNT.

Re: Navy Loses to Rice
Army certainly controls its destiny: beat NT and UTSA and they are in the championship game. Even with a loss, it's not necessarily over. Right now, Army and Tulane have the only unbeaten conference records, and Navy has the only 1-loss conference record. If Tulane beats Navy, that puts Navy with 2 conference losses. Army could split the NT and UTSA games and still go to the championship. It will get more interesting if Navy beats Tulane and Army loses 1 of those 2 games...it will come down to whether or not Army is higher ranked than Tulane...which I would think they would be if Army had 2 losses (assuming a loss to Notre Dame) vs. 3 for Tulane.WrekDivr wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 7:16 am Perhaps a little hangover from ND?

If Army goes undefeated in conference play, there's a good chance Army hosts the championship game. I think it would come down to higher ranked team and an undefeated Army or even a 1-loss Army (only loss to Notre Dame) would remain higher ranked than a 2-loss Tulane.
The North Texas game is huge for all of the above reasons...and will be a real challenge if Daily can't play. Army will need a ball-control offense to dominant TOP and limit the possessions for NT. That and a couple of stops, plus an efficient Army offense = win. Inefficient Army offense that gets FG's instead of TD's and/or has too many punts = likely loss I think. NT is going to score some points on Army, we need the Army O to click again next week!

Should point out the game got delayed about 6 hours due to thunderstorms, before the game and then after they’d played a quarter. I’m sure that had an effect, but whatever.
My understanding is that if Tulane beats Navy next week, Army is guaranteed a spot in the title game as long as they win one of their last 2 league games.

One of the oldest coaching clichés after a loss is "don't let [last week's opponent} beat you twice." I can't help but wonder if Navy was feeling a hangover from their loss to Notre Dame because they should've beaten Rice handily.

UNT scares me. They have a passing attack and we got screwed by the refs in 2017 there.

I assume the officials are regular AAC officials as were those for all league games so far and will be for UTSA.
UNT and UTSA will be challenges. This past weekend showed us that upsets are happening regularly. Focus one week at a time. This week is all about UNT. Beat the Mean Green.

Re: Navy Loses to Rice
Something to keep in mind is that the ONLY reason (in my opinion) that we ended the streak in 2016 was because Navy played in the AAC championship the week before and their starting QB got hurt along with either their stud LB or DB.
If those 2 players play versus us the following week, we don't break the streak in 2016 in my opinion
Another reason that.....maybe this conference stuff is stupid (again, in my opinion).
But if we lose to Tulane in the AAC, then lose to Navy the next week, then end up in the Independence bowl at 10-3 which is the EXACT bowl we would have had anyways....are we really calling this conference stuff a Win?

Re: Navy Loses to Rice
Yes we are at this point. He national level of attention would have been closer to what Liberty had been getting right up to their loss, just an afterthought. Instead, Army is in the hunt as the #2 Group of 5 team with a shot at a CFP invite if we win out or win the AAC. Beating Navy is always goal #1 but it isn’t the only goal. Now we can also aim for a championship in the conference a potentially more. This season is so much more fun because of the exposure Army is getting and the chance to beat Navy and still do more than that. This has all got to be great for recruiting.
