Article today on the Athletic on Monken.

Post by wpgrad »

I have read numerous times that agents insert their clients into coaching searches articles so that the client has "buzz" around names, and I have heard agents assist writers with "access" to coaches so that the agent can get a message sent through that article

That said, the athletic did a good article on Monken today but in that article, direct quotes

"But personally – personally – I want to go play for a national championship. I’m not sure that can be done at an academy" said Monken

I’d like to have an opportunity to have that challenge at the highest level,” Monken says.

“If he gets the opportunity and it’s the right one, he’ll pursue it,” Buddie says. “He’s in Year 11. He’s earned that opportunity

Well, that's not the best news I've heard lately..........although Buddie's right. He's earned it. Problem gets worse if he takes a lot of the staff with him.

Just not sure that the timing of these quotes makes any sense. We have a very tough 5-or-more game stretch ahead. Last thing we needed was a distraction like this.

He's got a right to go if he wants and if someone is going to throw money at him, no one should begrudge him taking it.

But the kind of Power 4 job he'd likely be offered probably doesn't afford him much more of a chance to win a national title than staying at Army does.

Monken will never win a national championship. He hasn't even reached the same levels or accomplishments that Calhoun and Coach N unlocked. And those guys never landed a P5 job.

SADLY, BUT REALISTICALLY ONLY ABOUT 8-10 SCHOOLS HAVE A CHANCE AT A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND ARMY IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
BRIEN KELLY SAID HE COULD NOT WIN AT NOTRE DAME. HE MOVES TO LSU. NO BETTER LUCK THERE. COACHES DREAM, "WHAT if?" ALMOST ALL DREAMS ARE SHATTERED.

I don’t see any P4 schools opening this year that would go after Monken. He wouldn’t take a lateral job so I think (hope) he’s here to stay.

I wonder if Dan Mullen is entitled to a finders fee after all tha endless politicking he did for JM during that ESPN2 telecast of the Temple game.
