I recently watched the 1984 Cherry Bowl and 1985 Peach Bowl where Army beat two teams that we would call P5 today: Michigan State and Illinois. It was fun to watch Army operating out of the wishbone. A couple of observations:
o I was surprised at how often Army ran to the outside. I would estimate about 60% of the runs were to the outside.
o The offensive line was really leaning forward in their stances.
o Army won these games because they won the turnover battle.
o Army had challenges passing in those days, too.

If I remember it poured in Atlanta most of game. Canteloupe intercepted a pass late to seal victory. New years eve

Jim Canteloupe played in early-mid 90s (Class of ‘96, I think). You’re probably thinking of a guy named Pete Chronister who had two interceptions in the Peach Bowl. He also batted down the pass on the Illinois 2-point attempt that would have tied the game with 34 seconds remaining. Great game in Army Football history.
