Bryson for Hysman

It’s Heisman, not Hysman.

My classmate, Bill Carpenter was on the cover of a Life Magazine not once, but twice. The first time was because he was known nationwide as the Lonely End.

It was Lonesome End not Lonely End.

Like I don’t know that it is Heisman. Only followed college football for 60 plus years.

I think the AD should make some t-shirts with
BRYSON for HYSMAN.

I didn’t think it was the ‘74 poster who called the trophy the Hysman; think it was someone else, perhaps tongue in cheek.
Pretty sure that early on at least, he was referred to as the Lonely End, but both terms were used a bit interchangeably.
Bill retired as a three star after declining promotion to four star. Retired to Montana. And he was lonely or lonesome after losing his lovely wife. Toni, but he remarried.

Yes it was a play on words.

Never heard BC referred to as “The Lonely End.”
The Sports Illustrated cover and story called him
“The Lonesome End.”

It wasn’t me that posted the Bryson for Hysman but it was obviously a play on the name Bryson and changing Heisman. I thought it was minimally clever and it brought a quiet laugh. But missing the obvious ‘joke’ was actually really funny. But not surprising. Common sense isn’t.
