Navy made the AP top 25 with us, but not the Coaches Poll Top 25. Article said it was the first time since 1960 that both of us were simultaneously ranked in the AP Top 25. We need some help from UNLV this week via beating Boise St. Still leaves UNLV with only 1 loss, but it’s to Syracuse, not Oregon, which is Boise’s current loss. We just have to keep taking care of business 1 game at a time.

Army has certainly been blessed by the fact the AAC is a MUCH weaker league than it was 10 years ago with the losses of Houston, SMU, UCF and Cinci. And we were given a gift schedule with the weakest AAC teams.

That said....6-0 is 6-0. And we will be favored versus ecu (16.5 via vegas) and a very bad AF team. Then North texas. Not unreasonable to be 9-0 heading into notre dame, which is just crazy to think about as a fan who had to watch sutton then berry then omg ross the worst then brock then ellerson.....

This season feels SO MUCH like the 1996 season, where we also played a pretty weak schedule, were 9-0 and played a ranked oppponent (syracuse) in the same way we have that potential versus ND.

Season didn't end the best with the missed FG choke after sutton spazzed and let like 30 seconds run off the clock....but I'd take 10-2 and the CiC in a heartbeat if we could duplicate that 1996 year. 1996 was a very darn good Navy team we beat.

(For those that dont' remember we have 3rd down around Auburn 10, could get a first down, 33 seconds left....and sutton sends out the kicking team on 3rd down and we miss. With 33 seconds...at the very least...run the ball to the middle of the field and then you got like 28 seconds to get your field goal team out there. Among the dumbest coaching things I've seen in my years)

Here we go again. Tell the whole story. We had run out of time vs Washington the year before in '95 on the half inch line, we tied Rice, went for 2 and failed vs ND that year, and never mind the bad call on the turnover vs Duke that cost us and had one Duke Head Coach come into the Army locker room to apologize for it after the game. Then be sure to mention that '96 was the first year of over time. Then don't forget to mention we had a kicker that was perfect inside the 40 that year. Then don't forget that we had already battled back all in the 4th quarter from being down 32-7 to 32-29. Might want to mention we had no timeouts and Auburn players were laying on Army players after the play trying to bleed the clock. Oh and the little known fact that we had timed all year exactly how long it took to get the field goal team out on the field, lined up, snap and kicked. But you wouldn't know that unless you'd been there.

Ok, now that we have a more full picture we kicked on 3rd down and missed. The odds were all in your favor to take the time on 3rd to get the kicking team on the field and make it and go to overtime. The only other reasonable option was to call a pass but you risk taking a sack or a pick that ends the game or completing it an running out of time. Which is fine if your assessment is to roll the dice and risk not being able to get the kick off. But let's be clear about why Coach Sutton made that decision at the time. There were a ton of factors and experience that led him to choose what he believed was the highest odds play for us to get a win. Personally I would have gone for the pass attempt and taken the risk on 3rd and put it in Mcada's hands to throw it away. But Coach Sutton saw it differently and I support his decision. Our jobs as players are to execute. He didn't snap, hold, block, or kick that ball. He merely tried to give us a chance to go to overtime and win.

There were 33 seconds left. Run the ball to middle or throw a safe 5 yard pass. That 28 seconds left. There is no way you are telling me army couldnt kick a fg with 28 seconds left. No way you are implying that.

Also, the ball was on the 9. Worse case with a sack, you get sacked for 10 yard loss and its STILL a 36 yard field goal (and your guy didn't miss all year from inside the 40).

Further....on 2nd down...army spiked the ball!!! If you are going to just kick it, then on 2nd down run the ball to the middle. then let the clock run down. then spike it with 4 seconds left (ie, don't leave 30 seconds on the clock for the other team).

It was 100% horrible mismanagement by the coach. There is no sugar coating it. dumb times 10. GO listen on youtube. Even the announcers are like...um...what is army doing?

The Washington screw job at the end of that game was Pac 8 officials. They were the same crew that did the bowl game, and like PD said we were out of TOs.

The first paragraph made me laugh out loud here. A dump truck full of nothing to do with the call in question. "Hey stuff happened and people took risks that didn't always work, so let's not center the ball and give our kicker a better chance?" Seriously. I get ",it was the coach's decision." But we can argue about whether it was right regardless of past losses. Should've centered the ball. Pretty simple.
