Unless we…lose to notre dame. Lose to utsa. Then lose to Tulane in aac. Then lose to navy. Then lose in the independence bowl. And that’s not un realisticgabn92 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 8:54 pm Yes we are at this point. He national level of attention would have been closer to what Liberty had been getting right up to their loss, just an afterthought. Instead, Army is in the hunt as the #2 Group of 5 team with a shot at a CFP invite if we win out or win the AAC. Beating Navy is always goal #1 but it isn’t the only goal. Now we can also aim for a championship in the conference a potentially more. This season is so much more fun because of the exposure Army is getting and the chance to beat Navy and still do more than that. This has all got to be great for recruiting.

So you’re saying that because we might lose a conference championship game that Army earns an invitation to through a great season…we’d be better off not playing it?

That’s the equivalent of saying “the only reason we didn’t break the streak in 2015 is that we had to start our 3rd string QB.” After all, both games ended in 21-17 scores with the losing team using backup QBs. And, we didn’t just beat Navy in 2016. We also beat the team that beat navy in that AAC championship game, Temple.wpgrad wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 8:06 pm Something to keep in mind is that the ONLY reason (in my opinion) that we ended the streak in 2016 was because Navy played in the AAC championship the week before and their starting QB got hurt along with either their stud LB or DB.
If those 2 players play versus us the following week, we don't break the streak in 2016 in my opinion
Another reason that.....maybe this conference stuff is stupid (again, in my opinion).
But if we lose to Tulane in the AAC, then lose to Navy the next week, then end up in the Independence bowl at 10-3 which is the EXACT bowl we would have had anyways....are we really calling this conference stuff a Win?

You said in another thread that it’s not fair to call joining the conference a success based on one year, which I think is a fair argument. But would you concede that it would also be too soon to call it a failure after 1 season?wpgrad wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 8:06 pm Something to keep in mind is that the ONLY reason (in my opinion) that we ended the streak in 2016 was because Navy played in the AAC championship the week before and their starting QB got hurt along with either their stud LB or DB.

"Beating Navy is always goal #1": a great way to ensure the team never gains/maintains greatness is to focus on beating a team that rarely reaches that goal.gabn92 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 8:54 pm Yes we are at this point. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but this is the exact reason the A/N game needs to be moved up and made a conference game. To me, a conference championship game is a cherry on top of the season, sort of like a bowl.wpgrad wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 8:06 pm Something to keep in mind is that the ONLY reason (in my opinion) that we ended the streak in 2016 was because Navy played in the AAC championship the week before and their starting QB got hurt along with either their stud LB or DB.

A/N is more important to me than winning the AAC and seems against our best
Interests playing for a conference championship the week before the more important game of the year.

How would you make up the lost revenue from moving the game up? CBS, or any other network, won't pay as much for the rights if it isn't stand alone on the last day of the season.
