CFB First Ranking
Army comes in at 25, 7 places lower than the AP poll, but still made the list. Boise State is at 12, exactly where they are in the AP poll. Guess the CFB committee is buying into Boise State, but not so much for Army. Have to beat ND to have a shot at changing their mind.

Oh but you forgot to mention that Chet Gladchuk is on the committee! Surely he's voting against us!!
IDK that's the case but might as well just start this conspiracy now and blame him.

Re: CFB First Ranking
I don’t know it’s so much Chet as our SOS really hurts us. We have to play who is on the schedule but not having Tulane or Memphis this year hurts. We have 2 loss teams ahead of us so I would think our only hope is win out and have Boise State lose in the MWC championship. At the beginning of the year even the most optimistic Army fan didn’t have the CFB playoffs on their mind so it doesn’t bother me in the least . This is still an awesome season.

If we win out, I think we make the playoff, especially if we beat a one loss ND. It's a stretch, but if we have a healthy team, especially a healthy Daily, I think we have a shot. We have a much better shot this year than in any other year I have followed Army football.

Chet’s a DB for sure and I don’t see him promoting Army’s case. I’m sure he pointed out our strength of schedule multiple times during the discussion.prideandream wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 10:49 pm Oh but you forgot to mention that Chet Gladchuk is on the committee! Surely he's voting against us!!

My concern is that Boise State is at 12, so Army could move up 12 spots by beating ND and not make the playoffs unless Boise stumbles. You don’t see many teams moving up that much unless other teams falter.

Re: CFB First Ranking
I have read numerous times that the committee members are not allowed in the room for any discussion if it is a team from their conference. After that discussion ends, then they come back into the room.

Re: CFB First Ranking
I think Army controls its own destiny. I see the #25 ranking as the CFP committee acknowledging Army's record--they couldn't ignore an unbeaten team and claim to have a playoff open to all 134 teams. If Army wins out, that would include a win against a top 10 Notre Dame (assuming they don't lose between now and facing Army), a perfect conference record, a conference championship win (most likely against Tulane, who is garnering a fair amount of respect nationally at this point). That resume would stack up very well against Boise State by season's end. Right now, the best thing they have going for them is a "good loss" by losing to Oregon by 3. If Army pulls the upset of Notre Dame, Army's resume would be better overall.WrekDivr wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 11:56 amChet’s a DB for sure and I don’t see him promoting Army’s case. I think we'll see a fair amount of movement with the CFP rankings from week to week. If Army keeps winning, they'll move up.

Re: CFB First Ranking
I agree with your point, gabn92, at least in a perfect world. However, two things have to happen for Army to make the playoffs now: Army moves up significantly and BSU drops. Let’s say Ay moves up 10 spots by beating ND and another 2 by beating Tulane in the AAC championship (assuming everything necessary happens for that to be possible). Army would then be #13, well ahead of where they are today, even ahead of our current AP poll ranking. Army would STILL not make the playoffs unless BSU drops a bit which would likely require a BSU loss.
None of that takes away from an awesome year and their a lot of what-ifs involved, but I think we would feel screwed in that scenario.

Re: CFB First Ranking
Its certainly great to have this kind of conversation about Army football isn't it, WrekDivr?
If the CFP rankings behave like the AP and Coache's poll, then you'll be correct...those polls typically don't drop teams unless they lose. Win and you move up.
We'll see, but I think the CFP rankings will show more movement based on resume's as they change each week of the season from here. If that's true, then Army should jump Boise State by resume if Army finishes unbeaten as a conference champ with a win over a top 10 team. Boise would be a 1-loss conference champ with no wins over top 10 teams.
Another option would be 2 Group of 5 teams making the CFP. It would be a shame for Boise to miss out if they have just 1 loss to Oregon, a conference championship and potentially the Heisman Trophy winner. If Army and Boise win out from here, I wonder if a 2-loss Power 4 team might get dropped to make room for that 2nd Group of 5 team?
Lots of football to play...but nice to dream a little.

Re: CFB First Ranking
Agree. Being 7 spots lower in the Playoff ranking verse the AP is the writing on the wall. We need BS to lose and also take care of our own business. Credit to BS they only lost to Oregon by 3. That’s legit!
