Injuries

Post by Dong Fong '09 »

Anyone have the inside scoop on how healthy we are coming out of the ND game?

I’m forgetting his name, but I believe our nose guard got hurt, which would be rough for us if his injury is serious.

Per twitter, DL Lewis is out for the year and DL Harris was getting imaging today.

Not looking good, and those are two HUGE losses as we prepare to play teams that run the ball.

I am very concerned that we are going to start this season like a lion and end it with a whimper

It looks like we are going to lose to Notre Dame again and again and again and again, just like the 4 games we have left.
If I could ask Mike Buddie one simple question it would be, "Why the hell did you want to play Notre Dame this year and for what in the Creators reason?"
Apart from the money of course.
Are you nuts?
Wake up and play a schedule that we can at least be competitive.
Gee, let us try again like 49-14 or 62-0 against LSU. Maybe we could try Ohio State, Texas or Georgia.
We could even get excited playing a team like that for the "prestige", "honor and glory and walk out with a 60- point shellacking. Everybody awaken to the reality of it all. We are not on that level unless WW 3 starts and then we will all be dead anyway.

Probably because our kids don't give a crap about playing the little sisters of the poor's football team.

And others like P&D can probably confirm it, but even with that result, those kids wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

I'd have chosen a different school if the '95 schedule with Washington and Notre Dame didn't exist.

Players, especially those at SA have something to prove and want the challenge of playing elite programs. Maybe not every week but at least once per year.

This same attitude explains how we have rolled into games against lesser teams and lost (see UMASS) in the past.

BTW Rabble, if you are reading this, you do realize that with continued success comes more and more challenging opponents? You can't play the bottom of the barrel forever. Sooner or later you will get an elite opponent. Either the Conference Championship, a major bowl, or the CFP Playoff. That is how it works. Good teams play good teams. Buckle up because Tulane is a really really good football team. Navy is a good football team and so is UTSA. And we are going to a bowl and likely going to play another really really good football team. Have you thought about all the teams not making the playoffs? Like Alabama or Michigan or USC or Oklahoma or Florida or Pitt or Texas A&M? I mean do you think if we win out and somehow wind up playing in the playoff vs an Ole Miss? I hear your frustration but I would urge you to reconsider your perspective because winning teams are always going to wind up playing really really good competition.

Also, hand-waving the money the school is probably getting from this game like that doesn't matter is also naive. The program needs money, they always will. We know all about the competitive disadvantages they face in the modern NCAA landscape, and acting like the money doesn't matter strikes me as out of touch. They're a football team who got money to play a very good football team on national TV in Primetime. There's worse ways to earn a buck than getting your butt kicked by a better team.

My son is a D1 athlete and when he looked at schools that were mid major, which at the time I thought were good fits for him, he said "I want to play on espn." ie, i want to play at a power 4 school. Can't argue with that (and he played on espn).

Agree 100% with P&D. Army athletes don't want to play Notre Dame every week but they want to play that kind of school at least once a year.

Will be interesting to see how the team reacts, injuries and all. I'm hopeful they'll come out with their tails on fire a bit, but am concerned that the offense has become a bit overly focused on Bryson along with the defensive injuries. UTSA has averaged 47 points per game in their last 4, which includes a one-point loss to Tulsa. So they aren't good on defense, but they've been outscoring most everyone. Would be good to show up with a great defense and a bit more diverse play calling/execution than we saw against UNT.

Getting your butt kicked every time we play a team a higher level we lose. Some are close (Oklahoma and Michigan), some are plain embarrassing (LSU and Notre Dame). On primetime TV, it is even worse. I don't think we get much out of these really reach games. Good money but laughable with our opponen'ts part in this.

Back to the topic of injuries - I'm wondering how the secondary is holding up after the ND game. Max DiDomenico an Casey Larkin were both a bit banged up (DiDomenico unable to put any weight on his leg and being helped off the field). Any updates?
