Dude69 makes an excellent point. Not having to deal with NIL BS and the transfer portal may be enough to keep JM right where he is. Tons of headaches, extra work for coaches nowadays with all the new dynamics. Yes, transfer portal handicaps us when compared to other schools bringing in players but let’s be honest, the players hoping around wouldn’t cut it at West Point anyway with all the demands outside of football. So complaining about us losing out on those type players is a red herring. West Point demands an ultimate level of commitment. The transfer portal encourages a short term viewpoint and a “Me First” attitude. Even if the Academy allowed transfers in it would be a disaster.

Agree, those are good points about some of the benefits of coaching at Army. However, the quotes in the recent Athletic article on Army football from JM seem to indicate his main desire is to have the chance to compete for a shot at the national title. Realistically, that's never going to happen at Army. All those intangibles don't seem to be enough to keep him around if he is given the right offer...at least according to JM's own words.
At this point, there are a couple of P4 teams with coaching vacancies that seem like they might be the kind of program that would offer someone like JM a chance: Purdue, West Virginia, UCF and North Carolina. I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up interviewing for at least one of those jobs. Hope he stays, but it seems his desire is to coach somewhere else and not have Army be the final coaching stop of his career.

Monken makes 2.3m here. At purdue they paid Brohm 5 so maybe he can get 6M, 5 year deal. Thats 20M in extra money over the next 5 years. Hard to begrudge anyone who can lock in a 20M payout at age 57 to get them to age 62. I'd sure as heck take it.gabn92 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 2:34 pm Agree, those are good points about some of the benefits of coaching at Army. All that said.....i say again...huge are the balls of the AD who hires the triple option guy who doesn't pass because very few fans want to watch Army style football (i have multiple guy friends who just can't watch a game with me cause they are bored)

Monken isn't being hired by any school that realistically has a chance of a national championship.
Ken had a better resume filled with signature wins and remained marooned at Navy.

Agree. It would likely take a couple of moves and a string of successes to get there.
I’m curious to see how things play out for KN at SJSU and if he is able to build that program and move on to something bigger.

I wouldn’t begrudge him at all for taking a payday at a P4 school. I feel like Army will always be indebted to JM. I just hope he doesn’t take some perennial bottom dweller job just to go to a bigger conference.

Agree. As Mike Buddie said in the article, “After 11 years he has earned it.”

What's interesting about KN and SJSU is that they averaged less than 100 yards rushing and over 300 yards passing per game this season. He didn't stick with triple option.
