Drinkall to be head coach at Central Michigan
Matt Drinkall is hired as head coach of Central Michigan. Drinkall came as an offensive guru. When Monken was earlier in discussions on other head coaching jobs word was he was only wanting to take Nate Woody and Drinkall. I wonder if with the rise of Cody Worley if Drinkall thought it would be harder and longer to replace Monken?Anyone have more insight or just an offer to good to pass up for an offensive genius?

Most coaches aspire to be a head coach. Seems like this was a good opportunity to move up professionally.

Re: Drinkall to be head coach at Central Michigan
That is an amazing move for Matt Drinkall. He goes to one of the bigger programs in the MAC, with a platform to get looks by P4 schools. It is a credit to Monken and his network for sending a non-coordinator level coach to a head job in a league that will have outside odds on being a highly ranked G5 team for the playoff.
If Drinkall does well at CMU its a win for our program. He is also potentially one of the first in line to succeed Monken should that time come in two years if he has success at CMU

Re: Drinkall to be head coach at Central Michigan
Per USA today, Drinkall was making $200k at Army and in 2024 CMU paid their head coach $1.1m.
This is a no brainer move for any coach to 5x their salary and get head coaching experience that might look good on a resume if monken ever leaves.
Big loss though. I am hoping that he stays through Navy game and then takes off

As Army continues to be a stepping stone for all coaches.
What does that tell you?
You pay your coaches commensurate with other top-flight schools and not spend 200 million on a memorial tha that does the program no damn good. WP has some strange priorities It smacks of administration and their own convoluted legacy.
Pay these guys for a 5- year deal, then let it shake out with Monken when Monken retires after giviing Monken the same commensurate salary as any power 4 school and stop with the brick and mortar shit.
Stop adulating these coaches for moving and give them the money now.
My take. I did it. These guys can have it both ways. Money now , head coach later. They are all young enough to persue future goals.
Don't be pansy-asses . Fight to retain them. Wake up. Think of OUR program for a change, Will-you???

Central Michigan-another dead road for a coach that will most likely get washed up at most schools.
What the frig does Mike Buddie actually do, except to congratulate a guy who is moving but yet does not offer him a 5- year smack to stay and groom himself for even a better program down the line if he is successful here?
Yeah, Yeah, grab the money and run away. Fine, but the history of most of these guys are purely driven that it will not happen to them. To most of them it does. Look at history. Ego and immediate greed instead of looking at a career down the road. Patience, my man. Where could I be 20 years down the road with the added experience at a position here?

Are you suggesting Army should pay the O-Line coach over $1MM annually? Or are you suggesting that a guy shouldn't pursue a d1 HC job in favor of remaining an OL coach?RABBLE wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 5:09 pm As Army continues to be a stepping stone for all coaches.

Re: Drinkall to be head coach at Central Michigan
I'm confused ... he doesn't want this to be all about greed and money ... but wants to pay the coaches? Where is the money going to come from? Wouldn't that make joining a conference and getting money from the conference a good thing?keco616 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 6:39 pmAre you suggesting Army should pay the O-Line coach over $1MM annually?
