That might be the case. I haven't seen any numbers on his deal but that's probably reasonable based on their needs and the market as a whole. That's probably still cheaper than a 4 or 5 Star coming out of HS trying to fish the best deal.wpgrad wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 1:41 pmTo clarify, I was indicating $500k for 2 years. And, it is my understanding that while the colleges have to revenue share the 20.5, there is still NIL after that.prideandream wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 8:42 am Hate to lose Modozie too. But will have to wait and see how he works out. Clearly has the body type and has film to prove he can play. But this is a massive step up in all around talent. I hope he does well. However he had one offer out of HS and was a Wide Receiver. That doesn't mean much other than the fact that things are moving really really fast for him. I'd be shocked if he got $1M to go. With a.$20.5M dollar cap coming this fall for payouts to all NCAA athletes $1M is a prized sum. In fact if I had to guess UGA may have gotten him on the cheap. But I'm sure there is real money that's offered that is probably hard to turn down as a young person and coming from Army. As far as the quality of the degree from UGA it isn't anywhere close. UGA can be tough to get in to but is nothing that carries significant weight by itself like a USMA diploma. But he's not going for the degree. He's going because it is as elite as you can get from a college football standpoint. If anyone can maximize his raw talent it's Kirby and staff.
I'm hoping he can start and be an impact player. I think it would be a heck of a recruiting tool for us. As much as I want guys to stay that's out of our control. What I do hope for is that we can take our recruiting to a higher level with all these changes and while we might lose guys every year I hope that we can start to stack more and more talent where replacing guys becomes easier and easier. Especially with the utilization of the prep school.

There is still NIL but my understanding is that the NCAA, for whatever they still stand for, is trying to include most of the NIL money in this new payout system that was negotiated in the "House Settlement". Athletes can still get outside NIL deals but they are meant to be legit with some real work or representation behind them. Not sure how that will be enforced though. Maybe not at all . definitely still the wild Wild West.
As a side note, I'm interested to see how donors continue to respond. With the Athletic Departments starting to write checks will donors be advantaged to give money to the AD and let them manage it? I would think there is going to be a shift in the dollars to let the schools try to control it. But I guess it just depends on how much money the collectives actually have and what goals the boosters have. Really I don't know how all this money will shake out I just know that it's not over and at some point real serious contracts are going to show up holding players feet to the fire.
We shall see.
