Challenges for Army
Rice finished the 2018 season with a miserable 2-11 (1-7 CUSA) record. This season the Owls return 6 starters on both sides of the ball. Rice’s starting QB, RB and 3 of 5 offensive linemen didn’t return for the 2019 season. The Owls do return their top 3 receivers including Austin Trammell who caught 62 passes a year ago. The good news for Rice is that they get their top 2 tacklers back from ’18 but they lost their tackles for losses leader (Roe Wilkins).
This is obviously a battle of two programs headed in opposite directions. Army is eyeing a perfect season while Rice is likely hoping to somehow reach 4 wins. Army’s biggest challenge is to not overlook the Owls. However, with the game being played at Michie Stadium and it being the opening game, the odds of that happening are highly unlikely.
