David Forney of Georgetown Preparatory School (North Bethesda, Md.), signed with the United States Naval Academy on Wednesday. Look inside for a photo and quotes from Forney.
The 6-foot-3, 310-pound offensive lineman committed to the Navy coaching staff on November 22nd, 2014 in-person after watching the Midshipmen defeat San Jose State at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
“Honestly, you can’r beat the combination of athletics and academics at the Naval Academy. All of the benefits you have after graduation, and the whole experience of being in the military and serving my country was compelling to me. My Dad grew up in Annapolis, so it’s a program I’ve been around since I was a little kid.”
Navy was the first to offer David Forney, on his birthday, but he received an additional offer from Wofford.
“The offer from Coach (Ivin) Jasper was at offensive line. I would imagine it’s for the interior at guard or center, but I can play tackle as well. The y always told me how much they like my movement off the line, that I have a quick first step, and can finish plays and put my man on his back. They want me to come in and compete right away for one of the three offensive line spots that will be open next year from departing seniors.”
In his senior year at Georgetown Prep, Forney was named first team All-State and All-Area honorable mention by The Gazette. David is the son of Erika and Rick Forney, and older brother to Chris, Rebekah, and Erik. They are from Walkersville, Md. about 45 miles away from the Georgetown Prep campus. At this time, he is unsure if his appointment will be to the USNA or NAPS.
