The first Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy game of the season is already upon us as Navy hosts Air Force looking for a much better performance than the one that they put up last week against Marshall. Army takes on Western Kentucky in the other academy contest of the weekend.

Week Results: 2-1. Navy was not good. Not good at all.

Closest Pick: I was 19 total points off of the Army vs Georgia State game as the Black Knights’ defense was better than advertised.
Season Results: 2-1 (66.7%)

Navy vs. Air Force – The scheduling of this to fall on the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks is important to both schools and a fitting tribute. There is plenty to digest here above football, but the football game will take place and it feels like Navy has a point to prove after the embarrassment that happened in the 49-7 drubbing at the hands of Marshall. Navy has been awful going back to the back end of the 2020 season and there needs to be an offensive spark from somewhere if the Mids are going to be what we have become used to this season. They will get there, but this game comes too early against an Air Force side that was comfortable in a 35-14 win in Week 1. Air Force 31, Navy 21.

Army vs. Western Kentucky – Army faces a quarterback in Bailey Zappe who threw for SEVEN touchdowns and 424 yards last weekend against Tennessee Martin. The Black Knights will win this if they control the clock – they held the ball for 42 minutes plus in Week 1 – and keep Zappe and the tempo-driven Hilltoppers offense off of the field. The Army defense is the real deal and they prove that here. Army 38, Western Kentucky 17.
