Week 13 Service Academy Football Predictions

U.S. Flag

Army struggled a little more with UMass than expected and will look to get things right in Week 13 against Liberty. Navy faces Temple while Air Force plays on Friday against UNLV.

Week Results: 1-2. I didn’t mind being wrong about Air Force in a thriller. But the way Navy continues to lose close games is stunning.

Closest Pick: After nailing the pick two weeks ago I was a massive 29 points out in my only correct pick of the week.
Season Results: 18-11 (62.1%). Last week I was at (65.4%).

Army @ Liberty – This is a more difficult game than most think. Liberty has a great coach in former Ole Miss head man Hugh Freeze and plenty of players capable of moving the ball on Army. Turnovers will be huge – the Flames turned the ball over six times last weekend – as will the ability of the 10th ranked Army offense on third down to convert those chances against the 15th ranked Liberty defense in those situations. Army 38, Liberty 31.

Navy @ Temple – The Navy offense cranked out 382 yards last week in the three-point loss to East Carolina. It was yet another game this season where the Mids haven’t been able to find a way to win a close one and this time they weren’t helped by the 563 yards of total offense the defense gave up. Navy is a 2-8 team that feels like it should be better. Temple is a 3-8 team that feels like it is exactly where it should be. Tulsa lit up the Owls last week in a 34 point loss to Tulsa and this is a game the Mids simply have to win. Navy 45, Temple 17.

UNLV @ Air Force – UNLV is a team that has been getting better as the season has gone on and played San Diego State to a 28-20 game in which they gave the potential Mountain West winners everything they could handle. They don’t get flagged for penalties and their run defense is very good – with the D as a whole not allowing more than 300 yards of total offense in its last three games. Air Force, however, is a different animal on the ground. Air Force 34, UNLV 20.
